Digital Xbox 360 Games Discounted Ahead Of Marketplace Closure

Digital Xbox 360 games are currently being discounted as the console’s online marketplace prepares to finally close this summer.

Users will still be able to redownload their previous purchases indefinitely, starting 29 July, it will no longer be possible to buy new games or DLC from the Xbox 360 Marketplace.

Goodbye my lover, goodbye my friend.

To many, the news comes with grief as many of us had spent countless years of our youths not only playing on this console but scrolling and browsing through the contents of the marketplace. But while many games will remain accessible through other means, according to an analysis that VGC conducted, approximately 220 titles will become largely unavailable.

Following the store closure announcement, Microsoft’s head of gaming expressed a desire to find ways to preserve these titles. In response, Microsoft has launched the first of three planned waves of discounts on digital Xbox 360 games. Prices have been reduced on 66 titles, including 18 from the list of 220 games that may disappear.

“To celebrate the legacy of Xbox 360, we’re working with our amazing publishing partners to offer as many price reductions as possible from our online store or the Xbox 360 Store on the console,” Microsoft said. “We’ll update this list with more games on 18 June 2024 and 16 July 2024, ensuring as many discounted games as possible before the store closes on 29 July 2024. These discounts will remain until the closure.”
