Star Wars Tales Of The Empire Breakdown & Easter Eggs
By Alleef AshaariVerified|May 4, 2024|0 Comment
Star Wars Tales Of The Empire is a six-episode journey into the fearsome Galactic Empire through the eyes of two warriors on divergent paths, set during different eras. After losing everything, young Morgan Elsbeth navigates the expanding Imperial world toward a path of vengeance, while former Jedi Barriss Offee does what she must to survive a rapidly changing galaxy. The choices they make will define their destinies.
The talented voice cast includes Diana Lee Inosanto (Morgan Elsbeth), Meredith Salenger (Barriss Offee), Rya Kihlstedt (Lyn aka Fourth Sister), Wing T. Chao (Wing), Lars Mikkelsen (Thrawn), Jason Isaacs (Grand Inquisitor) and Matthew Wood (General Grievous). Dave Filoni created the series and is the supervising director. He is also an executive producer along with Athena Yvette Portillo and Carrie Beck. Josh Rimes serves as co-executive producer and Alex Spotswood is the senior producer.
You can head on over here for our spoiler-free full review of Star Wars Tales Of The Empire.
As a refresher, Morgan Elsbeth was prominently featured as one of the main antagonists in the Ahsoka Tano series, but she originally appeared in The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 5. She’s an enemy of Ahsoka Tano as she seeks to help Grand Admiral Thrawn return to the galaxy. However, she dies after losing a duel against Ahsoka Tano in Ahsoka Tano Season 1 Episode 8.
Previously, we knew that Morgan Elsbeth is one of the last of the Nightsisters of Dathomir (the same home planet as Darth Maul), but in Star Wars Tales Of The Empire Episode 1, we finally get to see her origin and how she survived.
The episode opens with the Nightsisters getting attacked by CIS (Confederacy Of Independent Systems) droids led by General Grievous himself.
It’s brutal.
This is the first we’ve heard of any ‘mountain clan’ on Dathomir.
She’s out for vengeance.
The Nightsister magicks were always portrayed as a green aura, but the magicks of the Mountain Clan is white/blue, which might indicate their different spectrums of the Force. The Nightsisters derive their power from the Dark Side while the Mountain Clan’s source is from the Light Side.
In this episode, Star Wars Tales Of The Empire skips to when Morgan is already a Magistrate on the planet Corvus (which is where she will be during her first live-action appearance in The Mandalorian).
Interestingly, it seems that this establishes that Morgan Elsbeth is the designer of the TIE Defender in Star Wars canon. In Star Wars Rebels, it was Thrawn who started to mass-produce the TIE Defenders, which makes sense if Morgan is the one who originally designed them.
Rukh is the bodyguard and assassin of Thrawn. So, this is how she meets Thrawn for the first time and ends up working for him.
Now we know how and when they started working together, as well as giving the answer of who designed and created the TIE Defenders in Star Wars canon; Morgan Elsbeth.
So, now we’re in the New Republic era, which is closest to when we first met Magistrate Morgan in The Mandalorian.
But where did she get it from? It’s never explained.
This proves that this will lead directly to The Mandalorian Season 2 Episode 5 when Din Djarin and Ahsoka Tano arrive to free Corvus from Morgan Elsbeth because this is the same Wing from that episode. The live-action Wing was played by Wing Tao Chao, who reprises her role in this episode.
The credits of the episode confirm that the voice receiving the distress signal is none other than Bo-Katan Kryze, which is probably how Ahsoka Tano knew where to find Morgan Elsbeth.
The next three episodes will focus on Barris Offee.
As a reminder, Barriss Offee was a former Jedi Knight that fell to the dark side of the Force during Star Wars The Clone Wars. She was a Padawan under Jedi Master Luminara Unduli and a friend of Ahsoka Tano before she betrayed the Jedi Order. She was last seen being imprisoned for her crimes against the Jedi Order but she eventually became part of the Inquisitors.
Star Wars Tales Of The Empire will probably show the events of how that happened.
She learns to be an Inquisitor and is powerful enough to use Force Choke, Darth Vader’s iconic Force ability.
And here’s what her helmet looks like:
The most brutal scene yet.
She once again refers to herself as a Jedi and Force Pushes Lyn Rakish AKA The Fourth Sister off a cliff, thus redeeming herself.
She looks noticeably older but this is still during the Reign Of The Empire.
And she tries to kill Barriss Offee to get the Force-sensitive child.
It’s a poignant end to Star Wars Tales Of The Empire.
As bleak as these six episodes were, it all ends with a glimmer of hope, which is quintessential Star Wars.
That’s all, Star Wars fans, and a happy Star Wars Day to all!
