Ten Reasons Why Samsung A55 Is The Best Mid-Range Smartphone of 2024
By Kenn Leandre|May 1, 2024|0 Comment
In the past, the gulf separating mid-range smartphones from the top-of-the-line flagship models was massive. From the more “pedestrian” internals, screen and overall build, mid-range phones were seen as the ‘budget’ option for those who could not afford the high-end variants. However, it is no longer the case as mid range phones start to carry specifications which would be considered flagship-worthy if it was released just a few years prior. Not only the internals, the build of mid-range devices has improved as well.
Gone are the days where mid-range phones feel plasticky and toy-like due to the materials used in the name of cost-cutting. Mid-range phones in 2024 sport tougher materials which would put any top-range devices a run for their money. Enter Samsung’s latest mid-ranger, the A55 who takes the crown of being a mid-range smartphone which is punching well above its weight class.
In our review of the Samsung A55, we labelled the phone as being ‘Above Average on All Areas’ and today we are going to list ten reason why you would be wise to consider this mid-ranger in your hunt for your next smartphone.
The A55 comes with a chonky 5000mAh battery which is waaaaaaay more than enough to take you through the day. Even for heavy users, you will still end the day with plenty of power left in the tank. Time to ditch that battery pack!
The A55 runs on the latest Android version alongside Samsung’s One UI 6.1 for a seamless & uniform experience across its smartphone offerings. So if you have experienced other Samsung smart devices, your transition to the A55 is very much a seamless experience. Not to mention the fact of the ability to skin and personalize the phone to suit your personality via the best customisation app in the market, Goodlock.
99% of smartphone users are casual photographers who want a reliable and robust setup for everyday snaps. And the A55 delivers on all fronts. Of course you can always purchase more expensive models or even get a dedicated DSLR if you are heading towards the pro photographer side of the spectrum but for average Joes like us and for daily snaps, the setup on the A55 more than just deliver; they excel.
All Samsung mobile devices comes with Samsung’s multi-layered security system, Knox. Those who plan to game a ton on the A55 can now do so in comfort knowing that their private data are well taken care off. It’s like having an extra armor plate when in Call of Duty: Warzone
The curved edges on the A55 makes it a great phone to game on as not only the phone does not dig into your palms over long sessions, it remains secure to the touch thanks to the flat aluminum frame which wraps all around the front and back glass.
Yes, users will notice the aluminum frame getting warm much faster than plastic frames do but being great metal conductor also enables it to dissipate heat fast as well. Longer play sessions now no longer come with the caveat of having your palms seared.
While the A55 comes with ‘only’ 256GB worth of internal storage, you can always bump it up as the phone has the capability of storage expansion. We say bring this feature to the S-series as well!
We heaped a ton of praise on last year’s A54 in our review and the A55 is an upgrade of that device on all discernible metrics. It’s easily the best overall mid-ranger you can get in the market right now.
Gone are the days where mid-range devices carried plastic frames which made the feel like toys. In hand, the A55 feels like a premium product meant for a higher price bracket. The design language on the A55 fits perfectly with its S24 cousins and feels great in the hand.
Starting at RM1,999, the A55 is RM100 more expensive than the model it is replacing, the A54, at launch. Still, once you consider all the good and great stuff in the overall package as listed above, you will have a hard time finding a better deal out there.
