At today’s Warhammer Skulls event, amidst the serious announcements, there was also a moment of levity. Warhammer 40,000: Speed Freeks, the combat racer from Caged Element, perfectly encapsulates this lighter side.

First unveiled last year, Speed Freeks quickly gave players a chance to dive in early. Now, a year later, the game has seen some updates.

The Beta Begins

The beta launches on 24 May at 1:00 AM MYT, which corresponds to 23 May at 10:00 AM PT / 1:00 PM ET / 6:00 PM UK on Steam. It remains open until Thursday, 30 May, giving players a full week to explore the game.

Speed Freeks features adrenaline-junkie Orks racing buggies, shooting down rival mobs, and satisfying their need for reckless speed. The main game mode in the beta is Kill Konvoy, an 8v8 competition where each team tries to escort their Stompa to the finish line while preventing the enemy’s Stompa from doing the same.

The beta includes two large maps and offers seven different vehicles to drive. While the beta is hosted on Steam, players will need a PROS account—a unified login for games by Plaion, Saber Interactive, Deep Silver, and others.

Creating a PROS account unlocks in-game rewards and other benefits. Speed Freeks is set to be free-to-play when it launches this summer on Steam.
