Publisher and developer 11 bit studios have announced that its anticipated city-builder survival sim, Frostpunk 2, has been pushed back from its initial release date, 26 July 2024, for two more months.

The decision was made after surveys from the beta test, in which players gave the game an 8 out of 10. The design director Jakub Stokalski and art director Lukasz Juszczyk said in a statement:

“Based on the surveys we received from you after playing, the average rating you gave the Beta was 8 out of 10. We’re super grateful for that! At the same time, the Beta was only a small slice of a work-in-progress, still growing game. While our backlog is plentiful, the Beta was an opportunity for us to listen to what you enjoyed, and what didn’t quite land yet. This allowed us to prioritize things better, and bring to the front the features and modifications we were already working on (we hope!) you’ll enjoy the most.

Before we go into detail on the new additions, there’s one drawback we need to be upfront about. As we analyzed your feedback and prioritized things we want to add to the game, we realized that to properly do them justice – and to guarantee the best possible experience at launch – we need more time to finish the development of Frostpunk 2,”

Plus, the team has confirmed new additions to the game mechanics, extensive user interface and user experience enhancements, a new feature to watch up close the citizens called Zoom Stories, and a few other improvements – all to be ready once the game launches in a couple more months. The game will take place thirty years after the Great Storm, allowing players to take on the role of a Steward and make decisions that will shape the future of the entire City and its people. In this position, it is crucial to consider the needs and demands of society while ensuring the sustainability and survival of a growing metropolis. Players must also grapple with the challenges posed by both the apocalypse and the internal conflicts among the city’s inhabitants. They must manage emerging crises while also guiding humanity towards a promising future.

Frostpunk 2 is scheduled to release on 20 September 2024 for PC via GOG, Epic Games, and Steam, followed by PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S at a later date.
