Star Wars The Acolyte: Lee Jung-jae On How Qui-Gon Jinn Inspired Jedi Master Sol

Courtesy of Disney+ Hotstar, we were given the opportunity to participate in a press conference with South Korean actor Lee Lung-jae, who plays Jedi Master Sol in the new live-action series, Star Wars The Acolyte.

During the press conference, he mentioned that his character, Master Sol, is similar to beloved fan-favourite character, Master Qui-Gon Jinn (who was played by Liam Neeson in Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace).

Lee Jung-jae said:

“Before we began filming, all of the other films and series, I watched every single one of them and I paid particular attention to the Jedi characters. You know, of course, you are bound to really feel favourable to people that you know, so I was just naturally drawn to Liam Neeson’s Qui-Gon Jinn.

With his character and Master Sol’s, I wanted those two to have a connection. Chronologically speaking, Master Sol came before Qui-Gon Jinn so, who knows, maybe Qui-Gon Jinn could have been a Padawan of Master Sol. That was something that I was imagining. I felt a special attachment to that character, Qui-Gon Jinn.”

After watching and reviewing Star Wars The Acolyte, I can definitely attest to that, as Master Sol does belong to the same wise Jedi Master template and temperament as Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn.

The first two episodes of Star Wars The Acolyte are now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar. Check out my spoiler-free review of Star Wars The Acolyte by heading over here.

If you’ve watched the first two episodes, check out the breakdown and easter egg article here.

The Acolyte is set in the High Republic era during the prime of the Jedi, around one hundred years before the events of Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace. The Acolyte stars Amandla Stenberg (Bodies Bodies Bodies), Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game), Manny Jacinto (Nine Perfect Strangers), Dafne Keen (Logan), Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim), Rebecca Henderson (Inventing Anna), Charlie Barnett (Russian Doll), Dean-Charles Chapman (1917), and Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix).

For more details on each character, the StarWarsLord is here to help.

The synopsis reads:

The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated.

It follows an investigation into a crime spree that pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems.
