Deadpool & Wolverine: What To Know Before Watching The Only MCU Movie In 2024
By Alleef Ashaari|July 22, 2024|0 Comment
Deadpool & Wolverine will be the only Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) movie coming out in 2024. It premieres in Malaysian cinemas on 25 July 2024.
The synopsis reads:
Marvel Studios presents their most significant mistake to date—”Deadpool & Wolverine.” A listless Wade Wilson toils away in civilian life. His days as the morally flexible mercenary, Deadpool, behind him. When his homeworld faces an existenFal threat, Wade must reluctantly suit-up again with an even more reluctantlier… reluctanter? Reluctantest? He must convince a reluctant Wolverine to—Fuck. Synopses are so fucking stupid.
Recently, we were given the opportunity to join a virtual press conference with the cast of the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine, including Ryan Reynolds (Wade Wilson/Deadpool), Hugh Jackman (Logan/Wolverine) and Shawn Levy (director). Check out what they had to say about Marvel Jesus and more by heading over here.
If you’re looking for other exciting Deadpool & Wolverine-related content, head on over here to check out our awesome article on the most iconic team-ups and moments between the two titular heroes across comics, movies and TV.
There will be no spoilers for Deadpool & Wolverine in this article, as this article is meant to prepare you for Deadpool & Wolverine, so don’t worry about getting spoiled, we’re professionals here.
Okay, the events of Deadpool & Wolverine take place after the events of Deadpool 2, as Wade Wilson is continuing his life after travelling back in time to save his family and friends.
Deadpool lives on a different Earth in a different universe, so it’s currently unclear when Deadpool & Wolverine will take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) since all we know is that Deadpool will be entering the MCU somehow.
However, it will take place after the events of 2019’s Avengers Endgame and both seasons of the Loki TV series because the plot in Deadpool & Wolverine will revolve heavily around the Multiverse.
Of course, Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman will reprise their roles as Wade Wilson/Deadpool and Logan/Wolverine, respectively.
That being said, other confirmed returning actors and characters include:
New characters include:
A mutant with telekinetic and telepathic powers, who is the twin sister of Charles Xavier AKA Professor X. She will be one of the main antagonists of Deadpool & Wolverine.
In the comics, Cassandra is a “mummudrai,” a parasitic life form born bodiless on the astral plane. The mummudrai that became Cassandra became telepathically entangled with the future Charles Xavier, who possesses vast mutant telepathic powers. This granted Cassandra some psionic powers herself, including the ability to exit the womb and create a body.
Cassandra is Xavier’s ideological dark shadow, bent on destruction and genocide. She is most infamous for commanding an army of Sentinels to massacre 16 million mutants within the mutant homeland of Genosha.
A Time Variance Authority (TVA) agent whose purpose and intentions remain unknown as of now.
In the comics, Paradox started as a doppelganger created by Doctor Strange to act as his proxy, and his name was simply Strange. After refusing to be destroyed by Doctor Strange, he merged with another being from the Dark Dimension named Nobel and became Paradox. Paradox then became a friend of Clea Strange and stayed in the Dark Dimension.
However, the Paradox in Deadpool & Wolverine seems to be an entirely different character, only sharing the same name as Paradox. Paradox in Deadpool & Wolverine is a variant of Mobius M. Mobius whose name is also Mr. Paradox or Agent Paradox.
Technically, Deadpool & Wolverine is meant to be sort of a standalone movie since it will be Deadpool’s official debut in the MCU. However, if you do have the time and means to watch several movies in preparation for Deadpool & Wolverine, here’s how you can prepare by watching these movies and TV shows (all of which are readily available on Disney+ Hotstar).
This movie is the live-action introduction of Wade Wilson AKA Deadpool. Well, the PROPER introduction so let’s forget about 2009’s X-Men Origins Wolverine. If you only have the time and energy to watch one movie before Deadpool & Wolverine, this is it because it’s his origin movie, so an origin movie is essentially the basis of what makes that particular superhero.
It’s the sequel to 2016’s Deadpool and it’s the last point at which we last left Deadpool, which will then continue directly leading into the events of Deadpool & Wolverine. Deadpool’s time travel shenanigans during the post-credits scene in this movie will be connected to what happens in Deadpool & Wolverine.
This is the last Wolverine movie to date and understanding what happens in Logan will make you more appreciate why everything happens in Deadpool & Wolverine.
This one is more of a timesink since there are two whole seasons of a series to watch, but the multiverse stuff that happens in Deadpool & Wolverine is connected to the Loki TV series due to the appearance of the Time Variance Authority (TVA) in Deadpool & Wolverine.
