Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions Trailer Offers A Nostalgic Dive Into The Wizarding World
By Lewis LarcombeVerified|July 30, 2024|0 Comment
The first gameplay trailer for Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions has been released, showcasing a mix of beloved characters and a gameplay mechanic that evokes memories from early 2000s gaming.
The trailer, which you can view below, takes players on a journey from the iconic Hogwarts Quidditch pitch to the prestigious Quidditch World Cup. Players can create their own characters or step into the shoes of familiar faces like Ron Weasley, Draco Malfoy, Cho Chang, and Harry Potter. As players advance in skill and reputation, they’ll compete in increasingly grand venues, culminating in the ultimate Quidditch victory.
While the trailer doesn’t reveal extensive gameplay, it provides a glimpse of Chasers manoeuvring with the Quaffle, gearing up to score, and a few dynamic broomstick dashes, including a potential tackle. For those aspiring to emulate legendary Seekers like Potter or Krum, the game offers the opportunity to chase the elusive Golden Snitch.
Interestingly, this Seeker gameplay hearkens back to 2001’s Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone for PC and PS1. Those early games, despite their limitations and humorous character designs, featured a version of Quidditch where players would guide Harry through a series of coloured hoops in pursuit of the Snitch. Although I was a wee baby when that game was released, I do recall some experiences with the game later on in my childhood. This nostalgic element seems to be revived in the new game, as the trailer shows a Gryffindor character navigating through coloured hoops in the sky while closing in on a golden orb.
This throwback might suggest that Quidditch gameplay mechanics haven’t significantly evolved over the past two decades. Nevertheless, fans can expect more details soon, as Harry Potter: Quidditch Champions is set to launch on 3 September, with a physical edition following in November.
