Hatsune Miku To Star In New Anime Film

Hatsune Miku, one of the internet’s most iconic Vocaloids and Japan’s top virtual idol, is making her anime film debut. The eagerly anticipated movie, Project Sekai: The Broken World and Miku Who Can’t Sing, has just dropped a thrilling trailer along with a release date, rekindling excitement among her dedicated fanbase.

A recent post on X by Project Sekai’s official account announced that Hatsune Miku will headline the new film, which is being produced by renowned animation studio P.A. Works. The movie is slated to hit theatres across Japan on 17 January 2025. The announcement came with a visually stunning trailer featuring music sung by Miku herself, showcasing the signature futuristic charm fans adore.

Directed by Hata Hiroyuki, known for his work on storyboards for Dr. Stone, Squid Girl, and his directorial role in Recently, My Sister is Unusual, the film promises a captivating narrative. While there’s no word yet on international releases or streaming availability, the anticipation is palpable worldwide.

Project Sekai has also unveiled a striking key visual for the film, depicting a glitching hologram of Hatsune Miku amidst a bustling crosswalk, hinting at the film’s intriguing themes. Set within the universe of the popular mobile rhythm game Project Sekai, the movie is poised to explore the virtual idol’s journey in this vibrant digital world.

This isn’t Miku’s first foray into animation, as Studio P.A. Works previously produced a series of animated shorts for the game in September 2023. Fans are eager to see how The Broken World and Miku Who Can’t Sing will expand on her story and legacy.
