Star Wars The Acolyte Finale Episode 8 Breakdown & Easter Eggs
By Alleef Ashaari|July 17, 2024|1 Comment
The eight and final episode of Star Wars The Acolyte Season 1 is now streaming on Disney+ Hotstar. Check out my spoiler-free review of Star Wars The Acolyte by heading over here.
The Acolyte is set in the High Republic era during the prime of the Jedi, around one hundred years before the events of Star Wars Episode I The Phantom Menace.
The Acolyte stars Amandla Stenberg (Bodies Bodies Bodies), Lee Jung-jae (Squid Game), Manny Jacinto (Nine Perfect Strangers), Dafne Keen (Logan), Jodie Turner-Smith (Queen & Slim), Rebecca Henderson (Inventing Anna), Charlie Barnett (Russian Doll), Dean-Charles Chapman (1917), and Carrie-Anne Moss (The Matrix).
For more details on each character, the StarWarsLord is here to help.
Check out my breakdown of Star Wars The Acolyte Episodes 1 and 2, Episode 3, Episode 4, Episode 5, Episode 6 and Episode 7 here.
The synopsis reads:
The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era. A former Padawan reunites with her Jedi Master to investigate a series of crimes, but the forces they confront are more sinister than they ever anticipated.
It follows an investigation into a crime spree that pits a respected Jedi Master (Lee Jung-jae) against a dangerous warrior from his past (Amandla Stenberg). As clues emerge, they travel down a dark path where sinister forces reveal all is not what it seems.
She received this vision while wearing the sensory-depriving Cortosis helmet owned by Qimir.
By sabotaging Sol’s ship while he was in pursuit of an escaping Mae.
If he looks familiar, you’ve probably seen him in a lot of things.
As Henk Hankshaw / J’onn J’onzz AKA Martian Manhunter in the Supergirl TV series.
Or as Warlin Door in Alan Wake 2.
He wants the Jedi to be regulated because he believes them to be a cult that tries to control emotions and he also predicts that one day the hubris of the Jedi will cause one of them to snap.
This foreshadows what would happen a hundred years in the future in the Star Wars Prequel trilogy when Anakin Skywalker falls to the Dark Side and becomes Darth Vader, causing the Empire to rise and the Jedi to almost become extinct.
While Qimir and Osha are leaving a planet, someone can be seen lurking and watching from the shadows.
AND IT LOOKS A LOT LIKE WHAT DARTH PLAGUEIS SHOULD LOOK LIKE!
Darth Plagueis is perhaps one of the most iconic Star Wars characters that have never actually been seen in official canon because he is the Sith master of Sheev Palpatine AKA Darth Sidious. In canon, he would later be killed by Darth Sidious sometime before the beginning of the Star Wars Prequel trilogy.
This is a massive deal for Star Wars canon, if this is truly Darth Plagueis.
Fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate and all that.
After an epic duel, Master Sol proves to be more skilled and powerful than Qimir.
That’s a pretty fragile kyber crystal.
The Star Wars franchise really likes to use lines with “Strike Me Down”.
This situation of Qimir asking Mae to strike down Sol mirrors two previous scenes in the franchise.
One is when Obi-Wan Kenobi said “If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine.” to Darth Vader in Star Wars Episode IV A New Hope.
The other is when Palpatine was goading Anakin Skywalker to finish off and kill Count Dooku AKA Darth Tyranus to complete his turn to the Dark Side in Star Wars Episode III Revenge Of The Sith.
Welcome to the Dark Side, Osha.
When a Force user turns to the Dark Side, they can bleed their kyber crystal instantly and turn it into a red one.
This has happened before in Star Wars canon; in 2023’s Star Wars Jedi Survivor when Dagan Gera bled his kyber crystal.
So, now Mae won’t have any trace of memories of Osha or Qimir, which protects her from the Jedi and allows Osha to freely follow Qimir without the Jedi discovering them.
She basically puts the blame on Sol, telling the Senate that Sol kills all the other Jedi that died to cover up what happened on Brendok.
Ultimately, it’s Vernestra Rwoh who is lying to the Senate and covering up what actually happened.
And she wants Mae’s help to find him.
After ALL that has happened, NOW she’s asking for Master Yoda’s help?
That settles it, Vernestra Rwoh will probably go down as one of the most hated Jedi in Star Wars canon by fans.
That being said, at least we can look forward to Master Yoda in The Acolyte Season 2.
That is, if the series is renewed for a new season.
Especially now that it ends on a cliffhanger with Osha now the pupil/apprentice/acolyte of Qimir/the Stranger, and what about that Darth Plagueis tease?
Until next time, may the Force be with you all.
