Warner Bros. Games Officially Acquires Multiversus Dev Player First Games

Warner Bros. Games has recently acquired the free-to-play fighting game MultiVersus, developed by Player First Games, following an impressive debut. This move sees Player First Games joining forces with other well-known studios such as TT Games, Rocksteady, and NetherRealm under the Warner Bros. umbrella.

Following the acquisition, Player First Games will continue to be led by its co-founders, Tony Huynh and Chris White. Huynh will serve as the head of the studio, while White will oversee technology. Both will report to Carlos Barbosa, the vice president and studio head of Warner Bros. Games San Diego.

Warner Bros. Games President, David Haddad, expressed his excitement about bringing Player First Games on board, highlighting the team’s creativity and the positive impact this addition will have on their development capabilities. Co-founder Tony Huynh also expressed enthusiasm about the acquisition, emphasizing the potential benefits of the MultiVersus game.

MultiVersus, developed by Player First Games with production support and live management from Warner Bros. Games San Diego, features a diverse roster of popular characters from Warner Bros. Discovery franchises. After its beta was shut down last year, MultiVersus has returned as a full, free-to-play game. It is now running on Unreal Engine 5, and the game seems to be performing well for WB to provide further investments.

The game was launched on 28 May 2024 and is currently available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam.
