AniManGaki 2024: What You Need To Know

It’s that time of year again ACG fans, AniManGaki is back again for its 16th rendition to celebrate anime, manga, and gaming culture and is set to unfold from 23 to 25 August 2024 at their home, Mines International Exhibition & Convention Centre.

Drawing together thousands of comic book artists, cosplayers, game developers, VTubers, illustrators, and fans, AniManGaki promises a jam-packed experience. As the excitement builds, here’s a sneak peek at what attendees can expect. While the floor plan, public schedule, and full roster of special guests are still under wraps, AniManGaki’s official Facebook page has revealed a tantalizing lineup of activities, including an artist alley, cosplay alley, VTuber showcase, game tournaments, stage performances, exhibitors, carnival games, live performances, special guests, a cosplay competition, AniManGaki idol contest, art competition, and much more.

Artist Valley

Get ready to explore a vibrant array of artistic talent at this year’s AniManGaki Artist Alley. Over 200 skilled artists will be showcasing their unique creations, offering everything from prints to custom artwork for fans to purchase. While the detailed booth directory is still to be released, attendees can look forward to finding their favorite creators spread across multiple rows, each bringing their distinct flair to the event. Be sure to visit early and snag those exclusive pieces you’ve been eyeing!

Cosplay Valley

A whopping total of 97 cosplayers have been selected to be part of AniManGaki 2024! Check out the cosplay booth directory plan and the full list of cosplayers that will be attending the event:

 

Maid Cafe

Project Meido is a captivating maid-themed café that invites you to experience the delightful world of “moe moe kyun.” Led by charming captains Ebi and Fish, the café’s enchanting maids will pamper you with spoon-fed treats and create moments of pure bliss.

 

Art Competition

AniManGaki’s Art Competition is now open for submissions, inviting artists to showcase their creativity and vie for a share of the RM3,000 prize pool. The theme for this year is “Kei-chan Goes Camping in the Great Outdoors,” and participants must use traditional media to bring their visions to life.

Artists can submit their entries online, with the submission form closing on 18 August. The winners will be announced during the AniManGaki event itself, offering a platform for talented artists to gain recognition and celebrate their achievements. For more details and to register, visit here.

 

Cosplay Competition

Cosplayers, here’s your time to shine! AniManGaki invites you and your cosplay friends to take the stage and dazzle the audience with your creativity and showmanship. With a substantial RM8,000 prize pool up for grabs, this is your chance to rise to the top and claim victory.

AniManGaki Idol

This year’s AniManGaki Idol promises to be an exciting highlight of the event, offering talented singers a platform to showcase their vocal skills. In response to participants’ requests for more preparation time, the preliminary round will now be conducted entirely online. Aspiring idols can submit their performances digitally, with the finalists being selected based on these online submissions.

 

Fighting Game Tournament

Sponsored by Infinite Carnage, JBL, and RAZER, this year’s competition features the popular titles Tekken 7 and Street Fighter 6, promising intense battles and thrilling moments. With a prize pool of RM2,000 up for grabs, it’s an event you won’t want to miss. Registration is currently open, so secure your spot and prepare for an epic showdown here.

What can fans expect this year? AniManGaki’s Instagram and Facebook page says they will have “more jaw-dropping news coming.” As of now, they have revealed the first guest, and we’ll update this page as more guests are to be announced.

 

Special Guest – Dokibird

Dokibird is an independent English VTuber known for her energetic, trickster personality and high-level play in Apex Legends and Overwatch. Debuting in May 2020, she retired in 2021 but made a triumphant return in February 2024, quickly amassing over 700,000 YouTube subscribers. Celebrated for her playful antics and “gap moe” charm, Dokibird also shines in artistic streams. Notable events in her comeback include hosting WrestleTuber 2024 and leading her team to victory in Sajam Slam Champions 2.

Special Guest – Luna Haruna

Luna Haruna is a dynamic Japanese singer and fashion model who burst onto the scene with her debut single in 2012. Luna has captivated fans with her powerful voice and vibrant performances. From her early days as a model in the Gothic & Lolita magazine, KERA to becoming a celebrated anime music artist, Luna’s hits like “Overfly” and “Startear” have become anthems for popular series such as Sword Art Online. Her energetic presence extends beyond music into voice acting, and she continues to dazzle as an independent artist with recent releases like “BLUE ROSE.” Whether you’re a long-time fan or new to her work, Luna Haruna’s musical journey is one you won’t want to miss!

Special Guests – JKT48

JKT48, Indonesia’s premier idol group, is the first international sister group of Japan’s renowned AKB48. Since its inception in 2011, JKT48 has been a staple in Indonesia’s entertainment scene, performing regularly at their dedicated theater in FX Mall, Jakarta. Known for hits like “Rapsodi,” “Magic Hour,” and “Heavy Rotation,” the group consistently captivates audiences with their vibrant performances. With unwavering commitment and a passion for innovation, JKT48 continues to enchant fans across Indonesia and is making strides in expanding their global presence.

Special Guest – Miwa Shirow

Miwa Shirow is a renowned manga artist and illustrator hailing from Toyama Prefecture, Japan. He burst onto the scene in 1999 with his debut work, “BLACK MIND,” published in Shueisha’s Ultra Jump magazine. Known for his diverse and captivating creations, Shirow’s notable works include “Dogs: Stray Dogs Howling in the Dark,” “DOGS/BULLETS&CARNAGE,” and “RWBY.” His artistic talents extend to character designs and illustrations for popular anime such as “Joker Game” and “Kiznaiver,” as well as games like “7th Dragon 2020,” “Soul Hackers 2,” and “Fate/Grand Order.” Additionally, Shirow is a member of the Japanese music unit “supercell,” contributing to the unit’s visual identity, including illustrations, logos, and outfit designs.

This year, the event promises a captivating array of over 100 virtual stars, offering a thrilling virtual streaming experience. Dive into the VTuber Alley to meet prominent VTuber personalities at their dedicated booths. Explore the Group Glamping area, the counterpart to VTuber Spotlight’s Solo Campers, where groups of VTubers come together for collaborative fun. The VTuber Spotlight will shine on local talents from Malaysia and Southeast Asia in the Solo Campers section.
