God Of War Studio Develops New IP With Returning Talent
By Lewis LarcombeVerified|August 6, 2024|0 Comment
Santa Monica Studio, renowned for the God of War reboot series, is currently developing a new IP. This exciting news was revealed through the LinkedIn profile of Glauco Longhi, who rejoined the studio earlier this year to oversee character development for the unannounced project.
Longhi, a seasoned artist in the gaming industry, initially worked as a senior character artist at Naughty Dog on Uncharted 4. He then transitioned to Santa Monica Studio, contributing to the acclaimed God of War reboot in 2016 and later leading character design on God of War Ragnarök. His career also includes a stint as character and art director at Striking Distance Studios for The Callisto Protocol, followed by a role as studio art director at Unknown Worlds Entertainment, the creators of Subnautica.
In April, Longhi returned to Santa Monica Studio, excitedly announcing his new position on LinkedIn:
“Santa Monica Studios presented the opportunity of coming back as Character Supervisor, looking after the entire Character Development pipeline, on their new IP. So here I am, thrilled to be back, working again with the crew and pushing Characters in videogames together.”
Cory Barlog, Santa Monica Studio’s creative director who led the 2018 God of War, hinted in an interview with the LA Times in late 2022 that the studio was engaged in multiple projects. Beyond their flagship franchise, Santa Monica Studio has also supported indie game studios, including Thatgamecompany (Journey), Eat Sleep Play (Twisted Metal), Giant Sparrow (The Unfinished Swan), Ready at Dawn (The Order: 1886), and Q-Games (PixelJunk).
The studio was previously reported to be working on a sci-fi IP led by God of War 3 creative director Stig Asmussen, which was ultimately cancelled in 2014 following a round of layoffs.
