Netflix August 2024: Our Picks & Highlights
By Alleef Ashaari|August 1, 2024|0 Comment
I’m sure you won’t want to waste time sifting through Netflix’s extensive catalogue of shows and movies just to decide on what to watch. The streaming giant updates its site every day, week, and month with new content, so I’m here to save your precious time.
Here are my personal recommendations and highlights for Netflix Malaysia’s August 2024 lineup and how to fill up your free time with worthwhile content at home:
In postwar Japan, traumatised survivors must fight off a giant, devastating monster in this meticulously decolourised version of “Godzilla Minus One.”
Godzilla Minus One originally premiered in Japan on 3 November 2023 and in the US on 1 December 2023, but it hasn’t been released in Malaysia and other Southeast Asian countries. There have been many rumours and much speculation on the matter, but earlier this year, local Malaysian cinema chain GSC Cinemas confirmed the reason why Godzilla Minus One hasn’t been released in Malaysia and the rest of Southeast Asia.
Godzilla Minus One is the 30th live-action film in Toho’s long-running kaiju franchise after 2016’s Shin Godzilla. It is notable for being the first Godzilla movie in history to win an Oscar; it won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects at the 96th Academy Awards in March 2024.
In the meantime, check out my full review of Godzilla Minus One by heading over here.
Five years after the murder of a 17-year-old girl in a sleepy English town, one student is determined to uncover the truth and find the real killer.
A detective (Putri Marino) is assigned to investigate a mysterious murder case that occurred on the border between Indonesia and Malaysia. At the same time, she is faced with a past that continues to haunt her.
Delve further into the mythology and madness of Zack Snyder’s epic sci-fi saga in the viciously sexier, bloodier world of REBEL MOON – CHAPTER ONE: CHALICE OF BLOOD and REBEL MOON – CHAPTER TWO: CURSE OF FORGIVENESS. In Snyder’s director’s cut, a peaceful settlement on a moon in the furthest reaches of the universe finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius, and Kora (Sofia Boutella), a mysterious stranger living among the villagers, becomes their best hope for survival.
Tasked with finding trained fighters who will unite with her in making an impossible stand against the Motherworld, Kora assembles a small band of warriors – outsiders, insurgents, peasants, and orphans of war who share a common need for redemption and revenge. As the shadow of an entire Realm bears down on the unlikeliest of moons, a new army of heroes is formed.
They messed with the wrong squirrel. When Bikini Bottom and all its denizens are suddenly scooped out of the ocean, Sandy Cheeks and SpongeBob SquarePants journey to Texas to save the town from a villainous plot.
In STUDIO 666, the legendary rock band Foo Fighters move into an Encino mansion steeped in grisly rock and roll history to record their much anticipated 10th album. Once in the house, Dave Grohl finds himself grappling with supernatural forces that threaten both the completion of the album and the lives of the band.
The Hargreeves siblings have scattered after the climactic showdown at the Hotel Oblivion led to a complete reset of their timeline. Stripped of their powers, each is left to fend for themselves and find a new normal — with wildly varying degrees of success. Yet the trappings of their uncanny new world prove too hard to ignore for very long. Their father Reginald, alive and well, has stepped out of the shadows and into the public eye, overseeing a powerful and nefarious business empire.
A mysterious association known as The Keepers holds clandestine meetings believing the reality they’re living in is a lie and a great reckoning is coming. As these strange new forces conspire around them, the Umbrella Academy must come together one last time — and risk upsetting the shaky peace they’ve all endured so much to secure — to finally set things right.
Emily’s life in Paris may have beaucoup drama, but she’s ready to make bold choices to get everything she wants from the city — and man — of her dreams.
A New Jersey construction worker (Mark Wahlberg) goes from regular guy to aspiring spy when his long-lost high school sweetheart (Halle Berry) recruits him for a high-stakes espionage mission.
Inspired by the Thai horror radio show “Angkhan Khlumpong,” this series presents eight stories based on real-life experiences shared by listeners.

As discord reigns on Mount Olympus and almighty Zeus spirals into paranoia, three mortals are destined to reshape the future of humankind.
A warrior from a post-apocalyptic future travels to 1997 to protect an AI scientist being hunted by an unfeeling — and indestructible — cyborg.
A new judgment day arrives from Skydance, Production I.G, Masashi Kud? and Mattson Tomlin in the anime series TERMINATOR ZERO.
A seasoned police officer joins forces with an idealistic rookie to track down the Meth Killer, a merciless drug kingpin targeting narcotics officers.
