Bandai Namco To Break Freedom Wars Out Of PS Vita Jail
The PlayStation Vita back in 2011 was a revolutionary portable gaming device that was arguably ahead of its time, boasting a bunch of exclusive games. One of them is action title Freedom Wars, which is finally getting a bunch of ports after 23 years.
Bandai Namco will be publishing Freedom Wars for various platforms -PC, PlayStation 5, PS4, Nintendo Switch- with developer Dimps handling the ports. The game is going under the new moniker Freedom Wars Remastered, and will be out for those platforms on 10th January 2025.
The big question is how Bandai Namco got the license of Freedom Wars from Sony Interactive Entertainment. Easy: Dimps got it from SIE but needed to look for a new publisher as SIE isn’t footing the bill here. Here’s a quote from original director Takashi Tsukamoto:
“When we [Dimps] received the license from Sony Interactive Entertainment to create a remastered version and were looking for a publisher, Bandai Namco Entertainment kindly stepped forward and offered to publish.”
