MPL Malaysia Season 14 Kicks Off with Record-Breaking Viewership
The Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Malaysia has once again proven its dominance in the esports scene with a record-breaking start to Season 14. The opening weekend saw the league set a new viewership peak, as fans tuned in to witness fierce battles and standout performances from the top teams.
The highly anticipated match between reigning champions Selangor Red Giants and Homebois smashed previous records, with 245,841 peak concurrent viewers (PCV), surpassing the 228,679 PCV set during Season 13. As Malaysia’s oldest and most popular esports tournament, MPL Malaysia continues to grow, captivating a massive audience both locally and internationally.
Marketing Lead at MOONTON Games, Fikri Rizal Mahruddin, credited the league’s success to its constant innovation and strong partnerships, remarking on the impressive growth since its humble beginnings in 2017.
Selangor Red Giants started Season 14 with back-to-back victories, securing 5 points to top the standings. However, their 2-1 win against Homebois wasn’t without challenges, as they conceded a game to their restructured opponents. Despite the stumble, the Red Giants remain a formidable force, bolstered by their success at the 2024 MLBB Mid-Season Cup.
Newcomers Team Vamos also made an impressive debut, sweeping RED Esports 2-0. Their Jungler, Muhammad “Chibi” bin Mohd Nor, delivered a stellar performance with 15 kills and 12 assists, earning him the title of MVP.
In a thrilling showdown, former champions RSG Malaysia and Team HAQ faced off in one of the longest games in MPL Malaysia history, lasting 39 minutes and 33 seconds. Team HAQ emerged victorious, even without their coach, in a nail-biting best-of-three series.
