Rio AKA Death confirms that Alice is indeed dead, so we see her in some kind of afterlife.
Now, only Agatha, Billy and Jennifer are still alive.
It’s because Billy took a life (William Kaplan’s) when he reincarnated and she can’t simply kill him because he’ll just reincarnate again. She’s also afraid that Billy will bring Tommy back the same way he was brought back to life.
So, Agatha makes a deal with Death to give her Billy in exchange for not being in her life or letting her finally die (or something).
It’s also revealed that Agatha never sacrificed her son, Nicholas and that the rumour is all made up.
And she regains her powers after immediately doing a simple unbinding ritual using Agatha’s hair.
After she regained her powers, the Witches Road sent her back to the real world because she received what she wanted from the Witches Road; her powers.
Now, only Agatha and Billy remain.
We see him having a vision of another boy in the process of drowning and apparently, Tommy will reincarnate into this person. It’s implied that Tommy is successfully reincarnated because Billy then disappears from the Witches Road.
This is different from the comics. In the comics, both Billy and Tommy were reincarnated at the same time, albeit in different families. Billy was not responsible for Tommy’s reincarnation, or vice versa.
It’s pretty accurate to his comic book costume.
However, giving Agatha some of his powers probably isn’t a good idea. But that’s what she wanted from the Witches Road in the first place.
It was her plan all along.
However, when Billy brings up Nicholas (her son), she goes to kiss Death, which means that she’s giving herself up instead.
Death lets Billy go after Agatha gives herself up.
Also, Death looks great and comics-accurate in this shot (above)!
After this, Billy returns to his family (the Kaplans) and it turns out he’s only been gone for 24 hours, despite spending days with Agatha and the others in the Witches Road.
Episode 8 ends with Billy going back to his room and finding references to everything that happened while he was on the Witches Road. It’s implied that he caused everything to happen in the way that it all happened because of his powers. In the comics, Billy is so powerful that he can make things happen by wishing them, so perhaps the MCU version of Billy has similar powers.
In a flashback scene, we see Agatha giving birth to Nicholas Scratch but she made some kind of deal with Death beforehand.
Agatha kills witches and steals powers from them, to sustain both her and Nicholas and to keep them alive. They do this for years, even until Nicholas is around six years old.
Maybe that was the deal Agatha made with Death, she would kill witches and offer them to Death, in exchange for the life of Nicholas. Perhaps Nicholas was destined to die at birth and this deal is the only thing keeping him alive.
One night, Death sends the Salem Seven to take away Nicholas. Maybe because his time is up or because Agatha didn’t kill any witches that day.
After Nicholas was taken away, Agatha used the Witches Road as an excuse to collect covens and steal their powers by killing them.
She re-appears to Billy after we (the viewers) learn that the Witches Road never really existed and that it was Billy all along who made the Witches Road into reality. The Witches Road was previously just a ruse and trick Agatha used to collect covens and steal their powers.
Also, Agatha being a ghost is actually comics-accurate. In the comics, for the longest time, Agatha existed only in her ghost form after she was killed by the Scarlet Witch. She would later appear as a ghost from time to time and she was only recently brought back to life in the comics.
It’s confirmed, hopefully she will return to the MCU someday.
Billy was close to banishing Agatha’s ghost but she reveals that she doesn’t want to die or move on to the afterlife because she feels like she can’t face her son, Nicholas, after everything that’s happened.
Billy also makes a memorial to the witches who died.
Will we see Billy and Agatha again in a new series or movie? Only time will tell.
It’s been a great time, comic book fans.
See you for the next one, which will probably be Marvel’s What If in December 2024.
Until then, excelsior!
