Darkest Dungeon II’s Upcoming DLC adds New Hero & Region

Red Hook Studios has revealed exciting news for fans of the roguelike Darkest Dungeon II!  The studio has announced the upcoming release of the Inhuman Bondage DLC, the second DLC for the game, which promises to expand the adventure even further.

The Inhuman Bondage DLC will introduce a new playable hero called The Abomination, who comes with a unique ability to transform into a monstrous form at the expense of increasing stress levels. Players can look forward to customizing The Abomination with trinkets, palettes, and weapon kits, as well as experiencing an origin story featuring playable flashback sequences.

In addition to the new hero, the DLC will also unveil a new mini-region known as The Catacombs. This perilous area will challenge players to navigate through forgotten depths, facing off against a faction of slime-ridden enemies in a high-risk, high-reward environment. The Catacombs will introduce new items and enemies that can be encountered in both the current Confessions mode and the upcoming Kingdoms mode.

Speaking of the upcoming Kingdoms mode, the developers confirmed that it will be released later this year as a free update. Kingdoms mode will introduce a new game structure, tasking players with defending the realm from enemy incursions. The first module, titled The Hunger of the Beast Clan, will focus on the Beastmen faction. This module is the first of three thematic modules planned for the Kingdoms mode.

Darkest Dungeon II, the follow-up to the 2016 turn-based roguelike, challenges players to guide a stagecoach expedition across a decaying landscape in an attempt to avert the apocalypse. The game features a refined combat system with a new Token System, where each failed run grants resources for future attempts. Additionally, players can expect an affinity system between party members and the opportunity to learn more about their heroes’ backstories.

As of now, it is unclear of when the Inhuman Bondage DLC will be released. Darkest Dungeon II is currently available on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC via Steam.
