EA Eyes Apex Legends Overhaul Following Dwindling Engagement
By Lewis LarcombeVerified|October 30, 2024|0 Comment
Electronic Arts (EA) is set to shake up Apex Legends, aiming to combat a drop in player engagement and address missed revenue expectations.
According to a VGC report, EA CEO Andrew Wilson shared during Tuesday’s earnings call that “We’re at a pivotal point, steering the business in a new direction.” However, Wilson remains optimistic, confident that Apex’s global fanbase, brand power, and top-tier free-to-play status can ultimately return the game to growth.
Apex Legends Season 22, which debuted in August, fell short of targets, particularly due to underwhelming monetisation from recent battle pass adjustments.
Wilson highlighted two key factors in the competitive free-to-play FPS arena: the necessity of a strong brand and loyal player base—qualities Apex delivers—and the need for major shifts to revive and expand engagement. “We’re dedicated to both retention and broadening content for our global community while eyeing bigger, game-changing updates ahead,” he said.
When asked if EA might consider a total rebuild, “Apex 2.0,” Wilson hinted against it. He explained that launching a “Version 2” rarely matches the success of the original in live-service games.
“Our aim is to sustain and engage our current players by delivering fresh, innovative content each season while preserving their investment in the game.”
Rather than forcing players to choose between their current progress and new experiences, EA intends to evolve the core game while offering fresh gameplay options. “Season by season, we’re rolling out more robust experiences and diversifying gameplay. We believe we can innovate without dividing the community,” he concluded.
As Apex Legends gears up for these significant transformations, fans can expect a steady stream of new content that respects their hard-earned progress while bringing fresh excitement to the game. EA’s commitment to evolving Apex without compromising its foundation reflects their dedication to keeping players engaged in a dynamic, unified experience. For now, all eyes are on the next season, as Apex Legends looks to reclaim its momentum in the battle royale arena—one innovative update at a time.
