Ubisoft Confirms Involvement of Original Rayman Creator in New Project

Ubisoft has confirmed that it is considering the development of a new Rayman game. This announcement followed reports that the team behind Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown, which was recently disbanded, was working on various projects, including a remake.
In a statement provided to Kotaku, a representative from Ubisoft stated, “We are excited to confirm that Ubisoft Montpellier and Ubisoft Milan have initiated an exploratory phase for the Rayman franchise. The project is still in its early stages, and we will release more details in the future.”
This announcement from Ubisoft came after earlier reports suggested that the Prince of Persia: The Lost Crown team had been reassigned to work on two projects, the latter being is reportedly an unannounced Rayman remake. It was also mentioned that the original creator of Rayman, Michel Ancel, was involved, a fact that Ubisoft later confirmed.
The Ubisoft representative mentioned, “As the creator of the Rayman brand, Michel Ancel is being consulted to ensure consistency within the universe.” However, the company did not specify his exact role in the project.
The last installment in the Rayman series was 2013’s Rayman Legends, which garnered critical acclaim and sold nearly 5 million copies across various platforms, including the Wii U and PlayStation Vita. Although a remake of the 1995 Rayman may not be considered a completely new game in the series, the modern revitalization of the PlayStation 1 classic will appeal more to much wider audience.
