Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Won’t Have DLC—Here’s Why
By Lewis Larcombe|November 25, 2024|0 Comment
If you were hoping for story DLC in Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, you might want to shift your focus to the trilogy’s grand finale. According to Naoki Hamaguchi, the game’s director, the team has decided to skip major DLC for Rebirth to prioritise completing Part 3 as quickly as possible.
This approach marks a shift from 2020’s Final Fantasy 7 Remake, which later introduced the Intergrade expansion for PS5, complete with a bonus DLC episode, Episode Intermission. While fans have expressed interest in similar content for Rebirth, Hamaguchi explained in an interview with the Daily Star that their priorities lie elsewhere.
“We definitely do hear the desire from fans, the voices out there that want that kind of thing,” Hamaguchi shared, “but I believe what they truly want is the third part of the series as soon as possible. So, we’re dedicating all our resources to finishing that instead of creating additional episodes.”
“I understand it completely, but I think, from my perspective, what the fans really want to see the most is not necessarily DLC. They want to see the third part of the series as quickly as possible.
So that’s why we’ve decided not to focus the development resources on creating additional extra episodes for DLC at the moment. We really are putting all our efforts into getting the third game out as quickly as we can. So for the moment, that’s where we’re focusing our time.”
This decision reflects a clear intent: full steam ahead on making Part 3 a reality. Hamaguchi previously expressed confidence that the trilogy’s final chapter could stand among the greatest video games ever created. With development focused solely on delivering the conclusion, fans can anticipate an epic finale sooner rather than later.
