The eighth and final episode of The Penguin Season 1 is now streaming on HBO GO and HBO (Astro Channel 411 / Unifi TV 401).

The events of The Penguin take place after 2022’s The Batman, as he rises to become the iconic villain from the comics. It will consist of eight episodes in its first season.

Subsequent new episodes continue every Monday, from 30 September 2024.

Starring Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb (aka “The Penguin”), the DC Studios series continues filmmaker Matt Reeves’ The Batman epic crime saga that began with Warner Bros. Pictures’ global blockbuster The Batman. Developed by showrunner Lauren LeFranc, the series centres on the character played by Farrell in the film.

Cast includes Colin Farrell (Oz Cobb), Cristin Milioti (Sofia Falcone), Rhenzy Feliz (Victor Aguilar), Michael Kelly (Johnny Viti), Shohreh Aghdashloo (Nadia Maroni), Deirdre O’Connell (Francis Cobb), Clancy Brown (Salvatore Maroni), James Madio (Milos Grapa), Scott Cohen (Luca Falcone), Michael Zegen (Alberto Falcone), Carmen Ejogo (Eve Karlo) and Theo Rossi (Dr. Julian Rush).

Fran Knew All Along That Oz Killed His Brothers

It’s revealed that Fran (Oz’s mother) knew all along from the beginning that Oz killed his brothers.

She almost let Rex Calabrese kill Oz but decided not to when Oz made a promise to take care of her.

Fran later tells Oz that she knows when they’re both being tortured by Sofia Gigante and that she’s resented and hated Oz for that.

So much so that she stabs Oz (but he survives).

And he brings her to the hospital.

Sofia Offers Her Empire To Any Gang That Can Kill Oz

She says she wants to leave Gotham and leave it all behind.

Councilman Sebastian Hady Reveals That Gotham Mayor Bella Real Is Forming An Anti-Corruption Commission

Jayme Lawson played Bella Real in 2022’s The Batman, and she became the mayor of Gotham at the end of the movie.

Now, thanks to Oz speaking with councilman Sebastian Hady, we know what Bella Real’s first move as mayor will be and what will likely lead to what she will be doing in the upcoming sequel movie, The Batman Part 2.

According to Hady, Bella Real is forming an anti-corruption commission to clean up the city, so we might be seeing Oz and what’s left of the crime syndicates in Gotham fighting back against Bella Real.

And of course, maybe Batman will finally be there to back up Bella Real.

Bella Real even makes a cameo in this episode with Jayme Lawson reprising her role as Oz goes to city hall (after telling Sebastian Hady all the information he has on the Maroni and Falcone/Gigante families, pitting it all on them).

She really wants to leave it all behind.

Oz And Victor Turns The Tables On Sofia And All The Other Gangs In Gotham

Oz pretty much owns all the criminal underworld in Gotham City now, paving the way for his role in The Batman Part 2.

Sofia Gets Captured And Blamed For All The Chaos That Happened In This Entire Season

And Oz gets away scot-free while in control of all the criminal gangs in Gotham.

Fran Suffers From A Stroke

Just as Oz becomes the king of the criminal underworld. Tragic.

Oz Kills Victor Aguilar

Because Oz considers ‘family’ to be a ‘weakness’ and he considers Victor Aguilar to be one of them.

Sofia Is Back In Arkham Asylum And She Gets A Letter From Selina Kyle AKA Catwoman

In case you forgot, in the universe of The Batman, Selina Kyle AKA Catwoman is the daughter of Carmine Falcone. In this scene, Sofia gets a letter from Selina, telling her that they’re half-sisters.

The Episode Ends With The Bat Signal Shining In The Sky

Finally, the Batman doesn’t even get a single mention in the entire season of The Penguin. However, the final episode ends with The Penguin at the top of the criminal underworld and the Bat Signal shining in the sky, signifying the return of the Dark Knight.

What To Expect In The Batman Part 2

Now that The Penguin is the head of the criminal underworld in Gotham City, he will likely go head-to-head with the Dark Knight in The Batman Part 2. He’s in a completely different place than we met him in 2022’s The Batman, so it will be a new and interesting dynamic closer to the comics.

Meanwhile, Sofia is still alive and Selina Kyle might help her escape from Arkham Asylum again. The two sisters might even work together in the future.
