Selangor Red Giants made history, securing back-to-back Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Professional League (MPL) Malaysia titles by defeating Team Vamos 4-2 in the Season 14 Grand Finals. Not only did they make headlines with their win, but they also set new viewership records with 812,911 online viewers and over 15,000 fans attending the final live at Educity Sports Complex, marking MPL Malaysia’s largest-ever audience. Their performance adds another victory to their 2024 track record, which already includes the Mid-Season Cup (MSC) title.
Both Selangor Red Giants and Team Vamos have now qualified for the upcoming M6 World Championship, where they’ll join 23 other teams from 16 regions worldwide. As part of their journey to complete the “Golden Road”—winning MSC, MPL Malaysia, and the M6 in the same year—Red Giants aim to bring the elusive M6 title home. The M6 kicks off with its Wild Card stage on 21 November, leading up to the main stage on 28 November, with a prize pool of US$1 million.
Malaysia’s Deputy Prime Minister, Dato’ Seri Dr. Zahid Hamidi, graced the event, voicing government support for the esports sector. He highlighted the Madani Budget 2025’s MYR 20 million esports fund, which includes plans for a dedicated esports stadium and training initiatives. Dr. Zahid also acknowledged Sarawak’s plans to integrate esports into local vocational education, underscoring the government’s commitment to fostering talent in the industry. His remarks emphasized content creation as crucial for the industry’s future.
The Grand Finals brought thrilling gameplay as Selangor Red Giants overcame a rocky start in the playoffs. After a 1-3 loss to TODAK in the Upper Bracket, they fought through the Lower Bracket, defeating RED Esports and eventually avenging TODAK in the Lower Bracket Finals. In the Grand Finals, the Red Giants’ disciplined approach saw them claim Game 1, but Team Vamos bounced back in Game 2. The Giants secured Games 3 and 4, with Game 3 clocking in as the fastest of the season at 10 minutes. Vamos made a brief comeback in Game 5 before Selangor took Game 6, clinching the series.
The league’s growing popularity was evident, with Season 14 breaking records as the most-watched esports event in Malaysian history, surpassing Season 13’s peak of 610,943 viewers. Viktor Proniakin from Esports Charts highlighted MPL Malaysia’s steady growth, making it the third most-viewed league in the region after Indonesia and the Philippines.
As MPL Malaysia’s first series held outside Klang Valley, Season 14 set a new milestone, further energizing Malaysia’s esports scene. Fikri Rizal Mahruddin from MOONTON Games expressed high hopes for the M6, aiming for Malaysia’s first global MLBB title, showcasing Malaysian esports talent on the world stage.
