Ultraman Rising’s Ultraman & Emi Are In Gigabash: Check Out Their Moves Here

Ultraman has been a household tokusatsu name in Southeast Asia: human turns into giant space warrior, defeats space invaders and baddies, gets locked into eternal family and dynasty conflict with other related space warriors, fight demon versions of space warriors. All solid stuff.

Netflix’s pretty awesome all-ages animated film Ultraman Rising takes it a step further: have the protagonist Kenji “Ken” Sato balance his baseball career with his fatherly duties for his adopted kaiju child Emi. Since he can’t do much in his human form for the baby monster, he has to “Ultraman” up. Of course, this means he has a helpful sidekick who happens to fire projectiles and laser beams from its mouth, which is beneficial when going up against other kaiju.

Long story short: we have a new Gigabash character that’s out now: Ultraman & Emi. Here’s the official description:

Big Hero, bigger responsibilities! As Ultraman, you are star athlete Ken Sato, who returns home reluctantly to assume his father’s Ultraman legacy. But things quickly get complicated when he finds himself raising a newborn Kaiju, whom he names Emi.

We tried out Ultraman & Emi for a bit, and they’re a unique bunch to play as. Ultraman can walk around freely while Emi fires projectiles. In fact, you can tag enemies with a special blue sonar so that your subsequent Emi projectiles can track them easily. Don’t spam it though; after the fourth projectile, Emi gets tired and Ultraman has to comfort her, leaving you vulnerable.

Ultraman himself has a dash punch you can charge, a spinning blade move that you can also charge, and a fast-if-long-recovery-time divekick that hits hard. His running attack also lets him do a hit-and-run style kick that pushes him away from impending counters. Protip: if you charge your dash punch to the maximum time, you can store it and then press the attack button at any time to unleash it quick.

All in all, he and his brooding is a good addition to the eclectic Gigabash roster, and should be fun for those who like a mix of zoning and rushdown. Check out how they fare in our new Gigabash gameplay below:

Gigabash and the new Ultraman Rising DLC are available right now for PC and consoles.
