Creature Commandos Episode 3 Teases A Certain Metallic Team Coming To The DCU
By Alleef AshaariVerified|December 12, 2024|0 Comment
The third episode of Creature Commandos is now streaming on Max Malaysia.
In the meantime, check out our breakdown of Creature Commandos Episodes 1 and 2 here.
James Gunn, the co-head of DC Studios, is the writer and executive producer of the series. The official logline states the show “tracks a secret team of incarcerated monsters recruited for missions deemed too dangerous for humans. When all else fails… they’re your last, worst option.”
The cast includes Steve Agee as Economos, Maria Bakalova as Princess Ilana, Anya Chalotra as Circe, Zoe Chao as Nina Mazursky, Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Sean Gunn as GI Robot & Weasel, David Harbour as Frankenstein, Alan Tudyk as Dr. Phosphorus, Indira Varma as The Bride, and Viola Davis as Amanda Waller.
The Creature Commandos series will begin the new DCU or DC Universe, with the upcoming Superman movie in July 2025 set to be the first live-action movie. You can read more about the rest of the planned movies and TV shows in the DCU by heading over here.
In the comics, Sergeant Franklin John Rock, also known as simply Sgt. Rock, first appeared in Our Army at War Issue #83 (June 1959). The character is a World War 2 soldier who served as an infantry non-commissioned officer. He doesn’t have any powers and his stories are relegated to the World War 2 era, which is why he’s rarely featured in current and contemporary stories in the comics or adaptations.
In his most recent comic, he fought against Nazi zombies.
Damn, this is a deep cut.
In the comics, Doctor Will Magnus is a robotics expert and scientist who is most prominent for creating the Metal Men. The Metal Men are advanced artificially intelligent robots. What makes them unique is that each is made of a different chemical material.
The six robots of the Metal Men are Gold, Iron, Lead, Mercury, Tin, and Platinum (also calls herself Tina). They were possible because of the responsometer created by Dr. Will Magnus, and their powers were based on what metal they were made of.
It will be interesting to see them make their debut in the new DCU. I have always liked seeing the Metal Men be featured in any story in the comics and they deserved to have a decent adaptation.
If Will Magnus exists in the DCU, it’s only a matter of time before we meet the Metal Men. Plus, it’s teased in this episode that he wants to study G.I. Robot to make a new generation of robot automatons.
In fact, in that very scene, we see the very symbols for each of the Metal Men; Gold, Iron, Lead, Mercury, Tin, and Platinum.
Of course, the L symbol is for Lead and the P symbol is for Platinum.
Well, the good robot started off by killing Nazis (even modern right-wing neo-Nazis) and he never stopped. Good robot.
We discover that the reason why he was in prison and got inducted into the Creature Commandos is because he killed 32 of those neo-Nazis and was sentenced in court.
Animal-Vegetable-Mineral Man (Sven Larsen) is an actual supervillain of the Doom Patrol from the comics. He also appeared in 2019’s Doom Patrol series. He can change any part of his body into animal, vegetable, or mineral forms, as well as combining several more at once, which is disgusting.
Fisherman is an Aquaman villain. The body is just a human thief but the hood is actually a living parasite.
The Crimson Centipede is a Wonder Woman villain. He’s an obscure monster that was created by STAR Labs.
He makes him explode at the end of the episode.
She then almost kills Princess Illana before Weasel and Dr. Phosphorus attack and defeats her.
However, before the episode ends, Circe tells the Creature Commandos that stopping her has “doomed the world”.
What does she mean? We’ll have to wait until next week’s episode.
Until then, excelsior!
