The fourth episode of Dune Prophecy is now streaming on Max Malaysia.
Check out my breakdown of Dune Prophecy Episode 1, Episode 2 and Episode 3 here.
Set within the expansive universe of Dune, created by acclaimed author Frank Herbert, and 10,000 years before the ascension of Paul Atreides, Dune: Prophecy follows two Harkonnen sisters as they combat forces that threaten the future of humankind, and establish the fabled sect that will become known as the Bene Gesserit. Dune: Prophecy is inspired by the novel Sisterhood Of Dune, written by Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson.
Cast includes Emily Watson, Olivia Williams, Travis Fimmel, Jodhi May, Mark Strong, Sarah-Sofie Boussnina, Josh Heuston, Chloe Lea, Jade Anouka, Faoileann Cunningham, Edward Davis, Aoife Hinds, Chris Mason, Shalom Brune-Franklin, Jihae, Tabu, Charithra Chandran, Jessica Barden, Emma Canning, and Yerin Ha. Alison Schapker serves as showrunner and executive producer. Diane Ademu-John co-developed the series and serves as executive producer. Anna Foerster executive-produced and directed multiple episodes including the first.
At the time of writing, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune Part Two has grossed a whopping US$$714.44 million globally. In the meantime, check out our glowing review of Dune Part Two by heading over here.
Max is now available in Malaysia and other Southeast Asian countries (replacing HBO GO) starting from 19 November 2024.
She must have something up her sleeve, considering that she has ignored the Harkonnens all this time. Why now? We’ll have to wait and see.
In the Dune books, politics is a huge part of the Dune universe, and an essential element of that is the Landsraad. Most, if not all, live-action adaptations have yet to depict the Landsraad, but this is the first time we’re seeing it being brought to life, in Dune Prophecy.
What is the Landsraad? It is the body or organization that represents all the Great Houses, founded long before the Butlerian Jihad but rising to prominence during the early days of the Corrino Empire. It was ruled by the High Council and overseen by the Padishah Emperor.
The Landsraad Council met regularly and provided a forum within which Great Houses could relate with one another, to either negotiate trade agreements, create alliances and more. It was also supposed to protect the Great Houses from being singled out by the Imperial House and eliminated by it.
Basically, to put it simply, it’s the parliament, congress or senate of the Dune universe.
Keiran Atreides wants to use the drone to assassinate the Emperor but more importantly, there’s a reason why he secretly bought it from an Ixian individual.
In the Dune universe, the Ixians are a race of people who are focused on technology and the manufacturing of that technology, so much so that it sometimes blurs the lines of “thinking machines”. Technologically, they’re the most advanced in the Dune universe.
Empress Natalya spread the rumour so that more of the Great Houses would fear the Emperor and fear breaching the law banning thinking machines.
In the Bene Gesserit’s visions of the future, they see the sandworms of Arrakis (Shai-Hulud) and these mysterious pair of eyes.
Whose eyes are these? We still don’t know. However, it could potentially be either the eyes of the future Paul Atreides or Leto II Atreides (Paul’s son and the powerful God-Emperor sand-worm hybrid).
Kanly is the enactment of a formal feud or vendetta. It was originally created as a way of resolving bitter disputes in the Landsraad, usually in the form of one-on-one combat or war.
Basically, Kanly was what happened at the end of 2024’s Dune Part Two as well, when Paul Atreides fought Feyd-Rautha Harkonnen during the climax of the movie.
The only surviving rebel is Keiran Atreides, who remains hidden from being discovered as a rebel.
What are Tula’s plans, actually?
One of the Bene Gesserit, Sister Theodosia, is revealed to be a Tleilaxu Face Dancer.
In the Dune universe, they’re a sterile race of metamorphic transhumans engineered by the Bene Tleilax. Born from axlotl tanks and unable to breed on their own, they can morph and transform their bodies, just like Mystique from Marvel Comics, making them useful for spying and conspiracies.
There you have it, folks, only two episodes left.
Until next week!
