Anna Foerster executive-produced and directed multiple episodes including the first.
At the time of writing, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune Part Two has grossed a whopping US$$714.44 million globally. In the meantime, check out our glowing review of Dune Part Two by heading over here.
Max is now available in Malaysia and other Southeast Asian countries (replacing HBO GO) starting from 19 November 2024.
In the Dune universe, Bashar was a military rank of the Sardaukar comparable to the Old Earth rank of Colonel.
These Sardaukar look different from the ones in the Dune movies, which take place 10,000 years in the future.
He’s an illegitimate son of the Emperor, since he’s not the son of Empress Natalya. This means that Princess Ynez is the sole legitimate heir to the Lion Throne (that’s the name of the throne of the Emperor in the Dune universe, similar to how it’s called the Iron Throne in the Game Of Thrones universe).
Sister Francesca is there to convince the Emperor to give a bigger position to their son, Constantine.
If you remember, Mother Superior Raquella Berto-Anirul was the founder of the Bene Gesserit (as seen in Episode 1 of Dune Prophecy).
Unlocking genetic memory via the process of the Agony will sometimes result in this or the person going mad because they have access to the memories and personalities of their ancestors.
According to Raquella, the nightmares and deaths (caused by Desmond Hart) involve a genetically modified airborne RNA retrovirus.
Raquella also mentions that the virus was originally created by the Thinking Machines during the Butlerian Jihad war in what was called the Omnius Plague.
That’s interesting because Omnius is mentioned. Omnius was the AI leader of the Thinking Machines during the Butlerian Jihad.
So, the truth is that it was never magic or mysticism, just technology behind it all.
For doing this, the Emperor promotes Constantine to the commander of the Imperial Fleet, which will be heading to Arrakis to maintain control of the planet and Spice.
Tula uses the Bene Gesserit’s genetic library to determine Desmond Hart’s lineage and it’s revealed that Desmond Hart has both Atreides and Harkonnen blood. In the future, Paul Atreides is also of Atreides and Harkonnen blood, and is the eventual result of the Bene Gesserit’s long term plans.
In a later scene, Desmond reveals that his mother was a sister of the Bene Gesserit, who abandoned him on Arrakis. This is why he wants revenge against the Bene Gesserit.
So, was Desmond Hart planned or an accidental mistake? We don’t know yet.
The episode ends with Empress Natalya joining forces with Desmon Hart to take down the Bene Gesserit.
There you have it, folks, only one episode left.
Until next week!
