Skechers x Jujutsu Kaisen – Foamies Review: Cursed or Cool?

If you’ve been hanging around Kakuchopurei long enough, you’d know we review just about everything—games, movies, TV shows, you name it. But this review? This is uncharted territory for us. Our very first foray into fashion.

To catch you up, Skechers recently teamed up with the anime powerhouse Jujutsu Kaisen to drop a collection featuring JJK-themed Skechers Street Koopa and Foamies in nine different colourways. Naturally, curiosity got the better of me.

I’ve been strutting around in a pair of White Foamies from this collection for a bit now. So here’s the big question: when anime steps into the world of streetwear, can it deliver cursed energy levels that both weebs and sneakerheads can vibe with? Let’s find out.

Design & Aesthetic

First impressions? The White and Black Foamies nail the vibe of Jujutsu Kaisen. From the bold, clean aesthetic to the subtle nods to Itadori’s Black Flash, these kicks look exactly like what you’d expect from a cursed energy-powered collab.

The real charm lies in the customisation options. Each pair comes with a set of Jibbitz, letting you tweak the design to suit your personality—or maybe even channel your inner sorcerer. Whether you’re rocking Gojo-level style or keeping it low-key like Megumi, these Foamies have you covered.

Another standout feature is the minimal branding. As someone who’s never been the biggest fan of Skechers’ logo, I truly appreciate the subtlety here. The design focuses on the anime inspiration without screaming “Skechers!” from every angle, which is a big win in my book.

Comfort & Functionality

Looking good is one thing, but how do the White Foamies hold up when it comes to comfort and functionality? Well, they do the basics—it’s a shoe, after all—but there are a few quirks worth mentioning.

Sizing was a bit of an adventure. I’m usually a UK 7.5, but I had to size down to a UK 6 for a snug fit. While it’s tighter than I’d prefer, it felt better than the UK 7, which was too roomy even with the strap (“sports mode”) on my heel. That said, the snug fit means the tongue of the Foamies occasionally rubs against the top of my foot—not a dealbreaker, as I’ve walked quite a bit in them without major discomfort or chafing. Still, I imagine if they got wet, the experience would go from “meh” to “nope” pretty quickly.

For long-term wear, I noticed the base is firmer than I’d like. If you have arched feet, this could become uncomfortable after extended use, as the padding isn’t as soft as you might expect. It’s fine for casual outings, but you might want to think twice before making these your all-day shoes.

Design, Accessibility, Comfort, & Value

Speaking specifically about these Foamies, it’s clear they’re designed with anime fans in mind, but they don’t alienate non-fans either. With the Jibbitz attached, the shoes scream Jujutsu Kaisen, making them a dream for cosplayers and collectors alike. Remove the Jibbitz, though, and you’re left with a sleek, minimalist slip-on that’s stylish enough for everyday wear—no cursed energy required. This versatility makes the Foamies a solid choice for both weebs and casual sneaker enthusiasts.

At RM429.00 (and currently on sale for RM299.00), these Foamies undercut their competitors in price. However, with that affordability comes a trade-off: comfort. While they do the job for casual wear, competitors in the same price range—especially post-sale—offer softer padding and more support for those with arched feet or extended wear needs. Ultimately, it’s a balance between saving money and sacrificing a bit of comfort.

Conclusion

The Skechers x Jujutsu Kaisen Foamies are a stylish, versatile nod to anime culture. They’re perfect for fans who want to rep their favourite series in an understated way or even non-fans looking for affordable slip-on with a clean design. However, if all-day comfort is a priority for you, you might want to consider other options in the same category. At the end of the day, the Foamies strike a unique middle ground: a fun, functional shoe with just enough flair to stand out without trying too hard.

Pros

  • Sleek and accessible design, with or without Jibbitz.
  • Minimal branding for a clean, modern look.
  • Affordable pricing, especially during sales.
  • Versatile for anime fans and non-fans alike.

Cons

  • Firmer sole, which can get uncomfortable for long hours.
  • Inconsistent sizing; requires trial and error for a snug fit.
  • Limited arch support and softer padding compared to competitors.

Final Score: 70/100
