It looks like fans of the Dark Knight will have a much longer wait than expected, as Warner Bros. has delayed The Batman Part 2 from its previous release date of 2 October 2026 (via Deadline).

The Batman Part 2 will now premiere on 1 October 2027.

What this means is that The Batman Part 2 will premiere a whopping five years (half a decade) after the first movie.

According to James Gunn himself (the head of DC Studios), the reason for the delay is because the script for the movie is not finished yet.

2022’s The Batman generated a worldwide box office revenue of US$772 million. It has since received a spinoff series on Max, The Penguin.

Starring Colin Farrell as Oz Cobb (aka “The Penguin”), the DC Studios series continues filmmaker Matt Reeves’ The Batman epic crime saga that began with Warner Bros. Pictures’ global blockbuster The Batman. Developed by showrunner Lauren LeFranc, the series centres on the character played by Farrell in the film.

Cast includes Cristin Milioti (Sofia Falcone), Rhenzy Feliz (Victor Aguilar), Michael Kelly (Johnny Viti), Shohreh Aghdashloo (Nadia Maroni), Deirdre O’Connell (Francis Cobb), Clancy Brown (Salvatore Maroni), James Madio (Milos Grapa), Scott Cohen (Luca Falcone), Michael Zegen (Alberto Falcone), Carmen Ejogo (Eve Karlo) and Theo Rossi (Dr. Julian Rush).
