Nintendo’s Big Reveal Rumoured This Week

Nintendo could be on the verge of announcing its much-anticipated next-gen console, unofficially dubbed the Switch 2. According to insider Nate the Hate—a podcaster with a decent track record for Nintendo leaks—the reveal is set for Thursday, 16 January. If true, we’re just days away from seeing what the gaming giant has up its sleeve.

The rumour mill suggests this initial reveal will focus almost entirely on the console’s hardware, leaving the games showcase for another time—potentially late February or early March. Don’t expect a flurry of gameplay footage just yet, although it wouldn’t be surprising if a title or two sneaks into the trailer for dramatic effect.

This staggered approach would echo how Nintendo unveiled the original Switch back in 2016. That reveal began with a hardware-centric trailer, followed by a more comprehensive showcase in January 2017, where games like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey took centre stage.

Nate the Hate speculates that Switch 2 could hit shelves as early as May or June this year, which aligns with whispers from other sources such as VGC. If true, Nintendo might have some heavy hitters ready at launch, including a new Mario Kart game. Fans may also see a 3D Mario adventure during the holiday season of 2025.

Third-party developers are reportedly gearing up for the console as well. Big-name titles like Final Fantasy VII Remake, Assassin’s Creed Mirage, and Metal Gear Solid Delta are rumoured to be heading to the Switch 2.

Nintendo previously confirmed that its next console will debut within its current fiscal year, which wraps up in March 2025. So, while official details are scarce, it seems like the clock is ticking for the next big leap in Nintendo gaming.

For now, all eyes are on 16 January. If this rumour holds water, we might finally be looking at the future of Nintendo gaming.
