Skate Playtest Rolls Onto Consoles
By Lewis LarcombeVerified|January 14, 2025|0 Comment
After over two years of PC-exclusive playtesting, EA is finally letting console players get in on the action. If you’re rocking an Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, PS5, or PS4, you can now register to test out Skate ahead of its official early access launch. The news dropped via the game’s account on X (formerly Twitter), sparking a wave of excitement among wannabe digital skaters.
The move to open up playtesting on consoles reflects EA’s commitment to crafting the ultimate skateboarding experience. According to an official FAQ, the development team isn’t playing by the usual industry rules. Instead, they’re bringing players into the fold earlier than usual, inviting feedback to help shape the game. In their words:
“We’re still in the development stages of Skate and are bringing insiders like you into the game much sooner than is the norm in our industry. We’re incredibly passionate about skate. and want to ensure we’re building the best possible game, and that’s why we want you playing and providing valued feedback ahead of a worldwide launch.”
Revealed in a surprise 2020 announcement that shattered EA’s Twitter engagement records, Skate has been a long-awaited revival of the beloved series. This free-to-play reboot is the brainchild of Full Circle, EA’s Vancouver-based studio led by Daniel McCulloch. If his name rings a bell, it’s because McCulloch spent 15 years at Microsoft’s Xbox division before taking the reins at Full Circle in 2020.
Set to officially launch in early access this year, Skate promises to unite skaters across platforms with full cross-play and cross-progression support. And for those who prefer a smaller screen, EA has confirmed a mobile version is also in the works—though when it’ll arrive remains as mysterious as nailing a perfect 360 flip on your first try.
So, whether you’re a seasoned skater or just looking for an excuse to virtually fall on your face, now’s the time to register for a chance to jump into Skate. The ramps are ready, the rails are waiting—what are you standing around for?
