The New Shinobi Game From Lizardcube and Sega Is Officially Announced; Out Later In 2025

After leaks and gameplay teases, we finally get an official announcement from Sega about its new Shinobi sequel.

Shinobi: Art of Vengeance will be out for PC and consoles later on 29 August 2025. The new 2D game looks frickin gorgeous, courtesy of Lizardcube Games’ art style and animation work (they did the Streets of Rage 4 sequel a while back). The 2D game puts you in the shoes as Joe Musashi as he has to fight the bad guys responsible for razing his village and turning his people to stone.

This looks like the sequel to Shinobi 3 back in the Sega Genesis days, where Joe Musashi can wall jump and climb on ceilings, while also having a dive kick. In Art of Vengeance, he has a bunch of new tools and spells like a glide and air dash. It’s essentially what Shinobi fans want, and we only have to wait until August to get our 2D ninja action kicks.

Check out the game description and trailer below (via PlayStation’s State of Play):

Play as the legendary Shinobi Joe Musashi, master of the ninja arts. After finding your village burned to the ground and your clan turned into stone, you must set off on a quest for vengeance, ready to face an unparalleled evil and avenge your clan.

EXECUTE THE NINJA ARTS WITH PRECISION Wield your vast ninja arsenal including the great Katana Oborozuki, Kunai, Ninjutsu arts, and Ninpo to vanquish your foes.

MASTER THE WAY OF THE SHINOBI Unleash limitless combos with unique combat moves, acquire Amulets for enhanced abilities, and discover Ningi tools to overcome obstacles and uncover new paths.

JOURNEY THROUGH A STYLISTIC NEW WORLD Venture through more than a dozen unique and visually striking stages, from military bases to a scorching desert, challenging platforming puzzles, and hidden secrets.
