The Witcher Sirens Of The Deep Review: OG Geralt Voice Actor Is The Best Thing About This Little Mermaid Ripoff

The Witcher Sirens Of The Deep is only the second Netflix animated spinoff movie after 2021’s The Witcher Nightmare Of The Wolf (check out our review here). However, a lot has changed since then, with Netflix’s The Witcher franchise having lost most of its positive reception, popularity or fans from when the first season of the live-action series began in 2019. Is The Witcher Sirens Of The Deep still worth watching? Read on to find out.

Toss A Coin To The Witcher

To those unfamiliar with the name, Doug Cockle is the original voice actor of Geralt in CD Projekt Red’s The Witcher trilogy of games. It feels incredible to once again hear his gravelly voice again as he returns to voice the character in The Witcher Sirens of The Deep for the first time since 2015’s The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt. His performance is definitely the clear highlight of the movie and no shade to Henry Cavill’s Geralt but no one can replace the OG and that’s the one and only Doug Cockle. Here’s hoping he continues to voice Geralt in future movies, TV shows and games.

Another highlight of the movie is the action scenes. They’re pretty fun, bloody and gory. It’s also great to see The Witcher use his special magical sign abilities like the fire-based Igni and Force Push-like Aard. If you like seeing Geralt being badass as always and seeing Merpeople fighting humans, this will be an entertaining experience.

All that being said, the worst part of The Witcher Sirens Of The Deep is its story and plot. A part of the narrative is an unashamed ripoff of Disney’s The Little Mermaid, but with more blood and war sprinkled in. One major character is basically just the movie’s version of Ursula with a scene that is a direct clone of an iconic scene from The Little Mermaid that feels like a lazy effort from the writers.

You’ll probably just remember this movie for Doug Cockle but forget about everything else in The Witcher Sirens Of The Deep, as if it’s just another unremarkable side quest in Geralt’s many adventures.

All Hail Doug Cockle

In conclusion, if you’re here just for a fun little side quest with a returning OG voice actor Doug Cockle and some action, The Witcher Sirens Of The Deep will provide that. Everything else about this movie is just most forgettable and proof that Netflix’s touch on the franchise is gone.

FINAL SCORE: 70/100

The Witcher Sirens Of The Deep is now streaming on Netflix Malaysia.

English or Japanese?

Believe it or not, there is a Japanese dub for The Witcher: Sirens of the Deep. While it’s competent, you can’t go wrong with English as it features Doug Cockle and a slew of awesome accents in a dark fantasy medieval setting. Check it out below:
