Well, folks, it’s official—BlizzCon is once again taking a year off. But don’t worry, it’s not gone forever. Blizzard has confirmed that the convention will return in 2026, setting up shop at the Anaheim Convention Center on the weekend of 12-13 September.

If you’re keeping score, that means no BlizzCon in 2025, just like there wasn’t one in 2024. Not that Blizzard explicitly mentioned this in their announcement. Instead, they waxed poetic about nearly two decades of BlizzCon memories, how it’s inspired creativity, and their commitment to making the next event “worthy” of the community.

When it finally does return, BlizzCon 2026 promises all the usual fanfare—big reveals, deep-dive panels, the Darkmoon Faire, and hands-on gameplay. Blizzard also teased plans to “elevate” the experience, though what that means is anyone’s guess. More loot? Less controversy? A live demo that doesn’t explode on launch?

This marks the sixth time a physical BlizzCon has been cancelled, joining the graveyard of missed years: 2006, 2012, 2020, 2021, 2022, and 2024. The last proper, in-person BlizzCon happened in 2023, before Blizzard seemingly hit the snooze button.

BlizzCon has had its fair share of disruptions, from pandemic woes to internal scandals. There was even a brief attempt at a digital alternative, BlizzConline, in 2021, which quickly faded into history. The company later tried (and failed) to pull off a hybrid event in 2022, but we all know how that ended.

So, if you were hoping for a 2025 convention, tough luck. But hey, what’s one more year of waiting? After all, Blizzard fans are well-practised in the art of patience.
