Monster Hunter Wilds Is The Fastest-Selling Capcom Game Ever; Also The Sky Is Blue

Facts of life: Capcom’s Monster Hunter has always sold gangbusters since its popularity in Japan past the 2010s. But since its worldwide sales surge since Monster Hunter World in 2018, the rest of the world is catching.
Or rather, caught up. Monster Hunter Wilds, the latest generational entry in the long-running giant-killing series, has sold over a quarter of Monster Hunter World’s lifetime sales in just 3 days according to Capcom: 8 million units in that short span, specifically. For comparison, Monster Hunter World’s lifetime sales is 28.1 million copies. Here’s the latest presser from Capcom that’s basically a humblebrag post:
“Following the game’s announcement, Capcom promoted the appeal of Monster Hunter Wilds to a broad audience worldwide, exhibiting the title at global video game events and holding an online open beta test to give many players a chance to try it, while also providing updates on game information via the online events such as Monster Hunter Wilds Showcase.
“As a result of these continuous global initiatives, Monster Hunter Wilds has evoked massive excitement and achieved sales of 8 million units in 3 days, the fastest any game has done so in Capcom’s history. Capcom remains firmly committed to satisfying the expectations of all users by leveraging its industry leading game development capabilities in order to create highly entertaining gameplay experiences.”
This is in spite of the game running like unoptimized garbage on PCs, earning it a mixed rating on Steam at this point in writing. Despite this (and other game-breaking in Story Mode) issues, the game has earned high aggregate scores past the 90-out-of-100 mark on sites like OpenCritic. Due to this huge success, Monster Hunter series lead Ryozo Tsujimoto has been promoted to oversee all of Capcom’s development divisions beginning in April.
