Super Robot Wars Y Announced—The Ultimate Mecha Crossover You Never Dreamed Possible
By Lewis LarcombeVerified|March 28, 2025|0 Comment
Ah, Super Robot Wars. The game that asks, “What if every giant anime robot in existence got into a massive bar fight?” and then actually makes it happen. Bandai Namco has just announced Super Robot Wars Y, launching in 2025 for Nintendo Switch, PS5, and PC via Steam. So, if you’ve ever wanted to see a Gundam suplex a Macross Valkyrie while Code Geass mechs scheme in the background, this one’s for you.
For the uninitiated, Super Robot Wars is a turn-based strategy game where you command a ridiculous army of mechs from various anime, strategically placing them on a grid and then watching as they unleash spectacularly unnecessary, multi-phase, full-screen attack animations. It’s chess, if chess had missiles, theme songs, and dramatically shouted special moves.
Your job is simple: upgrade your favourite mechs, train your pilots, and throw them into battles where the stakes are absurdly high. If you’ve ever thought “What if G Gundam’s Burning Finger went up against Lelouch’s Knightmare Frame?”, congratulations—you’re about to find out.
Bandai Namco is once again opening the floodgates, throwing in a delightfully chaotic mix of franchises, including:
Combattler V – Because old-school Super Robots never die, they just get flashier explosions.
Aura Battler Dunbine – For those who like their mechs with a side of fantasy nonsense.
Mobile Fighter G Gundam – The Street Fighter of Gundam, where they literally punch each other instead of using beam rifles.
Mobile Suit Gundam: The Witch from Mercury (Season 1) – Finally, Gundam politics with corporate sponsorship.
Majestic Prince – Because you can never have enough teenage pilots making poor life choices.
Macross Delta: Passionate Walküre – Singers, transforming jets, and love triangles that last decades.
Code Geass: Lelouch of the Re;surrection – Lelouch is back from the dead, and he’s brought a giant robot.
Getter Robo Arc – If Getter Rays were a real thing, we’d all be dead by now.
And more mechs yet to be revealed, because Bandai Namco knows exactly how to keep us hooked.
If you’re the type who believes physical clutter equals happiness, then rejoice! The Collector’s Edition comes with:
The base game (which is nice, because sometimes they forget that bit).
A ROBOT SPIRITS <SIDE OG> Lunedrache figure – A glorified action figure that will look fantastic collecting dust on your shelf.
A Super Robot Wars Y acrylic stand – Because nothing says ‘I am an adult’ like anime acrylic merch.
The original soundtrack – Perfect for blasting in the car and pretending your daily commute is a high-stakes mecha battle.
There are also Deluxe and Ultimate Editions, which come with mystery bonuses, because Bandai Namco enjoys making people spend money on things they don’t fully understand yet.
It’s Super Robot Wars, which means big explosions, absurd crossovers, and more melodrama than a telenovela. It’s also a guaranteed timesink because once you start upgrading your favourite mechs, you won’t stop until you’ve maxed out every last one of them. See you in 2025—if your backlog ever forgives you.
