Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced Hands-On: Truly A Golden Age Of Piracy?

Back in 2013, Ubisoft Singapore hosted an Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag preview for international media in its office, as the game’s water physics and game engine for its naval combat bits are all made by this branch. Of course, all that led to the company making Skull & Bones; you don’t need me to tell you how that went, as its tumultuous development history and eventual release started from AC IV Black Flag’s engine and backbone.

Instead, we fast-forward to now with 2026 Ubisoft now releasing a remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag (now with the new title Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced) later in July, inviting the press once again to Ubisoft Singapore where it all began. The difference is that we now have veterans of the previous open-world pirate game sticking around the company and contributing a ton to the remake.

Three hours into the preview build, and I must say I am enamoured with how this game looks so far. Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced is a beauty to behold in 4K 60fps glory. One look at this, especially after going through the 2013 version, and you’re already hooked to its crystal clear graphics, art direction, and fidelity.

Pirate swashbuckling combat is less reliant on button-spamming attacks and more on timing. The key words here are defense and parry; Edward Kenway can parry attacks and then deal takedown blows to kill off enemies quick, with the option to chain them one at the time to look like a video game equivalent of Errol Flynn. Having said that, fighting in night areas and dark spots with minimal lighting is troublesome as it’s impossible to see attack prompts and highlights, since they all blend in to the art style.

I could go on about the shipsailing, the swimming, and the brand-new missions only in this version of the game, but I already made a video talking about my experiences in the preview build. Check it out below. Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced will be out on July 8 for PC and consoles.
