Overwatch League Transfers: How Will Fissure Fit In With the Dynasty?

In a ‘why didn’t they think of it earlier’ sort of transfer, former London Spitfire and Los Angeles Gladiators main tank, Chan-hyung “Fissure” Baek has joined the Seoul Dynasty for an undisclosed fee.

The move was confirmed via both Gladiators and Dynasty Twitter accounts thus vindicating Rod ‘Slasher’ Breslau’s tweet in July which suggested that Fissure wants to move to an all-Korean roster.

Fissure had been instrumental to the Gladiators’ change of fortunes, where he steered them from a third-tier team to a championship challengers, only falling to eventual champions, the London Spitfire in the playoff. However, the team’s talisman wasn’t featured in any of their playoff games and was instead replaced by iRemiix. It was rumored that he was unhappy with the Gladiators’ team practice mentality and was seeking for a more familiar surrounding in Season 2. So the move to Seoul Dynasty comes as no surprise as all OWL teams will be based out of their home cities in Season 2.

Fitting In With the Dynasty

Fissure’s move to the Seoul Dynasty is perfect on paper. He solves the Dynasty’s biggest weakness which is their tank line. Miro and Zunba have been inconsistent throughout the first season and both playstyles aren’t as aggressive as Fissure who is known to be one of the best in the league. Ryujehong’s brief foray as tank midway through the season is further proof that the Dynasty are in desperate need of an aggressive tank player and no one even come close to ‘The Most Handsomest Tank’.

Talent

The change of the meta to favor more mechanically-gifted players will also benefit the Dynasty who despite the poor finish in Season 1, still boast one of the most stacked rosters when it comes to raw talent. Fissure will be competing shoulder-to-shoulder with one of the best hitscans in the league in Fleta, the world’s best Ana in Ryujehong, ‘Boop God’ Tobi and the Zarya God in Zunba and we can’t wait to see these boys hit the floor together.

Meta Changes

As seen throughout Season 1 of the Overwatch League, the meta shifts from one end to the other due to a multitude of factors such as characters buffs and nerfs, as well as introductions of new heroes. This spell trouble for teams who are unable to adapt to it quickly and no other team suffered more than the Dynasty in Season 1. They bossed it in Stages 1 and 2 but were unable to cope with the change of a more dive-heavy meta as the season progressed into its latter half of the season.

Seoul Dynasty in Season 1 lacked the aggression of other teams which was their undoing. They were torn apart by less skilled, but more ruthless opponents countless times and with Fissure now on board, hopefully will be able to adapt to a more aggro mentality in Season 2. The rise of the tank-heavy setups such as Triple Tank, Swedish Meatball & GOATS comp should play to Dynasty’s hand and barring any surprise departure, should see them return as one of the most dominant teams in the league.
