So Ubisoft Is Really Going Through With NFTs, Huh? [Update]
Update: Ubisoft has delisted its NFT announcement as the YouTube version of the video has received overwhelming backlash. The video received 15,466 dislikes (via VGC).
Original story
Ubisoft said earlier this year that it’s interested in making NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens). Just today, the company announced its Ubisoft Quartz plan.
What is Ubisoft Quartz? It’s the company’s first energy-efficient NFTs playable in one of their triple-A games – Ghost Recon: Breakpoint. The beta for this starts tomorrow on 9th December.
Ubisoft CEO Yves Guillemot said prior that he wants his company to be “one of the key players” in blockchain gaming, hence Ubisoft Quartz.

Ubisoft Quartz is similar to a program like Steam Market, except with more NFT-specific rules. The program is dealing with Digits (the NFTs), which are limited-edition in-game cosmetic items with unique serial numbers.
Digits can be sold from player to player with a third-party marketplace (like Rarible), with an “ownership history” of everyone who has arrived before.
Digits are stored on Proof-of-Stake blockchain Tezos, which are less energy-intensive than the current Proof-of-Work protocol used for other blockchains like Bitcoin and Ethereum.
The items that are part of the Ubisoft Quartz beta are the following:
These items are cosmetic; they aren’t gear that can influence or break gameplay.
Only 18-year olds and above are eligible to be part of the NFT program, as well as have 2-Factor enabled for Ubisoft Connect, and be at least XP Level 5 in Ghost Recon: Breakpoint.
Right now, the site isn’t available for access in Malaysia and some parts of Southeast Asia.
