Ex-Rockstar Games’ Dan Houser Endorses Blockchain Games Studio
Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser, a rather important figure in the 2000s Grand Theft Auto games era, is the latest game maker in line to put money in blockchain and gaming.
More specifically, Dan Houser has joined the advisory board of blockchain games firm Revolving Games after taking part in a US$13.2 million funding round. The game studio launched in 2020 and has amassed a total of US$25 million or so for developing Web3 games and the tech behind them. The company has two studios and teams of 100 employees across North America, Europe, and Asia working on blockchain games.
Here’s a quote from the co-CEO Saad Zaeem:
“Our vision is clear: to build AAA quality games that turn heads amongst the best launches at the top gaming forums like Gamescom and E3.
As the world moves from a developer-owned ecosystem to a player-owned ecosystem, Revolving Games will be at the forefront of this evolution whilst continuing to release titles that compete with the best in the traditional video games industry.”
So what games have Revolving Games been involved with? The company has created a Battlestar Galactica-themed strategy MMO title and a co-op adventure RPG called Skyborne Legacy with cutesy graphics. It’s hard to see Dan Houser getting all hyped up and putting a lot of his money on games like these that only have concept art with little to no gameplay footage or a vertical slice for the public. Still, maybe he’s a changed person from the old Rockstar Games days and sees some value in blockchain-related gaming.
