YouTube Shorts Creators Can Soon Qualify For Ad Revenue
By Alleef Ashaari|September 21, 2022|0 Comment
In their effort to combat the rise of TikTok, YouTube has announced that YouTubers who create Shorts on the platform can now qualify for the YouTube Partner Program and thus earn ad revenue.
According to the official blog, starting in early 2023, Shorts-focused creators can apply to the YouTube Partner Program by meeting a threshold of at least 1,000 subscribers and 10 million Shorts views over 90 days. These new partners will enjoy all the benefits the program offers, including the various ways to make money like ads on long-form and Fan Funding.
For how the revenue share works; from the overall amount allocated to creators, YouTube Short creators will keep 45 percent of the revenue, distributed based on their share of total Shorts views. The revenue share remains the same, whether they use music or not.
In addition, to support creators who are even earlier in their YouTube journey, from gamers showing off their speed runs to trendsetting DIY makeup tutorials, YouTube will introduce a new level of the YouTube Partner Program with lower requirements, which will offer earlier access to Fan Funding features like Super Thanks, Super Chat, Super Stickers and Channel Memberships. YouTube will add paths for long-form, Shorts and Live creators to join this new tier in 2023.
This is good news for budding YouTubers, especially those who prefer short TikTok-like videos over producing long-form video content. Perhaps this will slow down the rise of TikTok and make YouTube more of a competitor again.
