Bracket For Dota 2’s Lima Major Set Following Extremely Tight Group Stage
By Lewis "lickety" Larcombe|February 28, 2023|0 Comment
The Dota 2 Lima Major bracket is set, and we have all the details on which teams are moving on and which ones are heading home.
First up, let’s talk about how the teams got to this point. The 18 teams were divided into two groups and played two games against each other team in their group. The top four teams from each group moved on to the upper bracket, while the fifth and sixth-place teams went to the lower bracket. The bottom three teams were eliminated with no prize pool or DPC points to show for it.
In Group A, Gaimin Gladiators and Team Spirit came out on top with 11 wins and 5 losses each. However, Gamin Gladiators snagged the top seed thanks to tie-breaker rules. Evil Geniuses and Talon Esports also made it to the upper bracket with records of 10-6 each, but EG had the tie-breaker advantage.
PSG.LGD and Tundra Esports were the last two teams to qualify for the lower bracket in Group A, with PSG.LGD at 8-8 and Tundra barely making the cut with a 7-9 record. Tundra fans were on edge during the final day of the group stage, but luck was on their side as both TSM and Execration lost their final matches, allowing Tundra to avoid tie-breakers.
In Group B, Team Liquid and Entity secured their spots in the upper bracket early on, with Liquid only losing two maps throughout the group stage. Knights had a tough time, only winning one game and losing 15 to come in dead last.
The final day of regular matches brought some surprises, with Shopify Rebellion making it to the upper bracket with a 10-6 scoreline, and BetBoom Team dropping out in eighth place.
Now, let’s talk about the tie-breakers. Team Aster and beastcoast had to play a best of three to decide who would go to the upper bracket, and Aster came out on top. Meanwhile, HellRaisers and Geek Slate also played a best of three to determine who would go to the lower bracket and who would be eliminated. HellRaisers won, keeping their hopes alive.
The top eight teams will now face off in the first round of matches in the main event, with the losers moving on to face the lower bracket qualifiers. The first round of games kicks off on 28 February, so mark your calendars and get ready for some intense Dota 2 action!
