Little Big Adventure/Relentless To Get Remasters In 2024
Back in the 90s, PC gamers got a taste of the colourful and weird with the pretty niche action-adventure title Little Big Adventure. It stars a ponytailed hero named Twinsen, makes you throw balls as a weapon, and pits you against elephants, sphere-mutants, and “rabibunnies” as enemies.
It’s a weird game, but has its charm and whatnot, with the second game being a huge improvement over the first with its gameplay and inclusion of aliens. The original creators of the game, Frederic Raynal and Didier Chanfray, have formed a new company called 2.21 that’s tasked with remastering the old adventure games, and perhaps releasing a reboot of it one day.
Originally, the developer was working on a Little Big Adventure 3, but those plans were scrapped in favour of a reboot meant to reintroduce the series to a new audience. The reboot is ambitious and will not be out even in 2024. The game is in a prototype stage with the team in discussion with several publishers.
For now, the remasters are slated for a 2024 release, with a demo being prepared at Steam Neo Fest. The remasters will be out in time for the series’ 30th anniversary. Here’s a quote from 2.21.
“Dear community,
Thank you for your enthusiasm following the revelation of the concept arts for the Twinsen reboot project. Our studio is at a turning point: we finished the prototype, and are currently in discussion with several publishers to make the game possible. As you know, the road to a project of this magnitude is long and full of unknowns! We believe in the potential of the Twinsen’s universe and want to keep it alive. But we also have to prove to publishers that 30 years later, these games deserve to exist in a modernized version. This is a real challenge. We believe in it… and we know you do too!”
