Multiversus Open Beta Shuts Down This June; May Launch In Full On 2024
The currently-in-open-beta 2D platform fighting game Multiversus, which isn’t even out in Southeast Asia at all and cannot be played via VPN without a ban, will be shutting down its open beta phase later this year.
Multiversus’ open beta will shut down on 25 June, but will resurface with new content updates and features in 2024. Here’s the official statement from Warner Bros Interactive on why the open beta is shutting down.
“The MultiVersus Open Beta has been an important learning opportunity and a stepping stone to the next phase of the game. There is still a lot of work to do, and we have a clearer view on where we need to focus, specifically on the content cadence of new characters, maps and modes to provide more ways to enjoy the game, along with netcode and matchmaking improvements. We’ll also be reworking the progression system and looking at new ways for players to connect with friends in the game.
To do this the right way, we will be closing the MultiVersus Open Beta on June 25, 2023. As part of this process, we’ll be pausing updates and taking the game offline as we prepare for the launch of MultiVersus, which we are targeting for early 2024.”
MVPs, thank you for the support during Open Beta! The feedback and inspiration has been amazing. Open Beta will close on June 25 as we prepare for full launch in early 2024. #MultiVersus will be back better than ever with new content, features, modes & more when we return. pic.twitter.com/6NOCMRDBrp

This may anger some fans who paid money for the game, especially since most open betas for free-to-play titles just last for months on end and then launch properly. The fact that the game needs to shut down for months until early 2024 might raise some eyebrows, though if the developers need time to prep up for a big launch, we’ll just have to see it to believe it.
