Space Engineers Beta Coming To PS5 & PS4 This May

Build your way through space with the upcoming beta launch of Space Engineers on PS5 and PS4 on 11 May, according to an announcement from developer Keen Software House.

The standard edition will cost you US$28.49, while the Ultimate Edition, which includes over 150 new blocks, 20 skins, 20 emotes and more, will be available for $88.49.

If you pre-order either version, you’ll get the downloadable content called “Automatrons” as a bonus. What’s even cooler is that the PlayStation versions will support cross-play with the existing Xbox Series X | S, Xbox One, and PC (Steam) versions at launch.

So, what’s the game about, you ask? Well, in Space Engineers, you can build anything your heart desires. You can create your own spaceships, space stations, planetary outposts, and even wheeled vehicles. There are no limits to what you can build or explore. You can choose to play in creative or survival mode, and the game can be played alone or with others.

One of the coolest things about Space Engineers is its realistic, volumetric-based physics engine. Everything in the game behaves like real objects with mass, velocity, and inertia, and can be assembled, disassembled, damaged, and destroyed. Structures are made up of block-like modules that interlock in a grid, and each module has its own storage capacity and volume.

Space Engineers is inspired by modern-day NASA technology and strives to follow the laws of physics. You won’t find any futuristic technologies here that wouldn’t be feasible in the near future. While the game does have survival shooter elements, the focus is on construction and exploration. The idea is to use your creativity and engineering skills to build the ultimate machinery to survive and thrive in space and on planets. It’s not about the troops, it’s about the machines you create.
