Warner Bros. Discovery has announced that the adaptation of Minecraft AKA the untitled Minecraft movie will premiere on 4 April 2025 (via The Hollywood Reporter).

Currently, the only officially listed cast members are Jason Momoa, who will voice the main protagonist last year, and Jared Hess as director, who is best known for directing Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre. The Minecraft movie has been in development for almost a decade now, with multiple directors having been attached and having left the project since, including Shawn Levy.

They also announced other changes in their upcoming theatrical release schedule. Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom will now premiere five days earlier on 20 December 2023 instead of Christmas 2023. The Color Purple will take the Christmas release date. Meanwhile, the Wizard of Oz spinoff Toto has been removed from its 2 February 2024 release date.

Developed by Mojang Studios, the Minecraft franchise is currently the best it’s arguably ever been, with several spinoffs, including the upcoming RTS Minecraft Legends. It will launch for the PS4, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, PC and Xbox Game Pass on 18 April 2023.
