Kickstarter For A Call of Duty Tabletop Game To Launch This Fall

Arcane Wonders, the developer of popular board games like Sheriff of Nottingham and The Dice Tower Essentials, has announced that it will release Call of Duty: The Board Game. The game is designed to recreate the experience of playing the video game and will feature combat, movement, and line-of-sight mechanics.

It will come with large-scale miniatures and be set in the era of the 2019 reboot of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare. The game will be available for purchase in retail stores worldwide by 2024, but before that, it will be launched on Kickstarter this fall.

The base game, which will be for two players, is expected to cost US$50, and multiple sets can be combined for four-player matches. The developers have emphasized that this is not a rehash of any particular title in the series.

Instead, it is a new entry in the long history of Call of Duty, and it will continue to grow and expand with its player base. In addition to the competitive and tournament styles of play, cooperative campaigns will be created for the game in the future.

Traditionally, adapting first-person shooter mechanics to a board game has been challenging for designers, but Arcane Wonders is confident that it has found a solution. Players will simultaneously plan out their moves secretly and then resolve them at the same time out on the map. Line of sight is easily determined by coloured lines on the map, and when players have eyes on their opponent, combat happens. The goal is to outsmart and outmanoeuvre your opponent to get in the best possible position to win in a fight.

Arcane Wonders will use a crowdfunding platform to generate capital to launch the game, which is common in the tabletop industry for projects of this scale and profile. The initial crowdfunding campaign will be for a special collector’s edition of the game, which will include more than the final retail product. Additional content will be made available during the campaign and will also be broken up in the later retail releases as separate products. Fans can sign up to be notified at launch on the game’s official website.
