EA Is Pleased With Star Wars Jedi: Survivor & FIFA 23 Performance

Here’s a two-fer piece of news from EA and its recent earnings call.

First up is its newly-released Star Wars game. Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is off to a strong start, according to EA. The company stated during its fourth quarter earnings call earlier this week that the game has reached “millions” of players since it was released for PS5, Xbox Series, and PC on 28 April.

“Within the first few weeks, millions of players have joined Cal Kestis and BD-1 in their rebellion against the Empire. On Jedi, we’re overjoyed. We made the bold decision to move the title six weeks to give the team the opportunity to really get to the quality of the game that they wanted.

I think we’re building on where we were with Jedi: Fallen Order and it’s certainly been a very strong launch for us. It’s very early, I think we’re 11 days in at this point, we’re in a different kind of market dynamic, but I would tell you it’s pacing very strongly against our expectations and against Jedi: Fallen Order.”

In spite of the game’s buggy launch on PC and consoles, Respawn and EA are on the task of fixing it up. We thought the game was great despite its technical issues; here’s our review.

Second and last on this piece is the FIFA 23 sales, perhaps the company’s last football game with the official FIFA name. FIFA 23 sales overtook the numbers of previous entries like FIFA 22 within just six months. Basically, it overtook the last game’s lifetime sales pretty quick.

“In the six months since launch, EA Sports FIFA 23 has surpassed life-time sales of EA Sports FIFA 22, becoming the most successful launch in franchise history.
Record live services performance and increased engagement, particularly from our EA Sports FIFA franchise, drove better-than-expected Q4 net bookings, capping a strong finish to the fiscal year.

Year to date net bookings from the FIFA franchise have grown 4%. In North America alone, unit sales are up 50% year over year.”
