The screening is slated to feature the first four episodes of the Rurouni Kenshin anime reboot. We originally reported that a Malaysian screening would be happening back in May 2023.
Rurouni Kenshin creator Nobuhiro Watsuki originally launched his Rurouni Kenshin manga in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1994. The manga has more than 72 million copies in circulation worldwide. The manga follows Kenshin Himura, who was once a deadly assassin during the Meiji Restoration and is trying to find a new life beyond violence. Back in November 2017, police discovered DVDs with footage of naked girls in their early teens in Watsuki’s Tokyo office. He was later charged with child pornography and fined ¥200,000.
The manga was previously adapted into a 95-episode TV anime series, an anime film, three original video anime projects, five live-action films, and a stage musical by the all-female musical theatre troupe Takarazuka Revue.
The Rurouni Kenshin reboot anime is slated to premiere on 6 July 2023.
