By Alleef Ashaari|July 4, 2023|0 Comment
I’m sure you won’t want to waste time sifting through Prime Video’s extensive catalogue of shows and movies just to decide on what to watch. The streaming site updates its site every day, week, and month with new content, so I’m here to save your precious time.
Here are my personal recommendations and highlights for Prime Video July 2023 lineup and how to fill up your free time with worthwhile content at home:
During the turmoil at the end of the Bakumatsu Era, there was a patriot known as “Hitokiri Battosai”. With the advent of a new era, the man disappeared from public view leaving behind just his legend of the strongest Revolutionary warrior. Years later in downtown Tokyo, on the 11th year of Meiji.
Kenshin Himura, a traveling swordsman who vowed to never kill again on the sakabato (reverse blade sword) he carries on his hip, meets Kaoru Kamiya, the head instructor of the Kamiya Kasshin-ryu sword style. Kaoru ends up offering Kenshin to live at her dojo after Kenshin solves the case of a crossroad killer who was tarnishing the name of the Kasshin-ryu while claiming to be the “Hitokiri Battosai.
Meet friends such as Yahiko Myojin from the samurai-class family in Tokyo and Sanosuke Sagara who claims to be a fighter for hire, and faces off against various foes who have unfinished business from Kenshin’s past. The Meiji samurai romantic story of people who are struggling to live in the new era unfolds here!
Experience the zombie world with ‘Akira’, a corporate employee who is tired of working life. But then a zombie apocalypse breaks out. Instead of being afraid, Akira is glad he doesn’t have to work anymore and even sets 100 goals to achieve before turning into a zombie!
A man’s quotidian world is suddenly disrupted by strange events when he takes his ageing father to the hospital for a check-up. A charitable woman hands him a calling card to the future; a hostile ex unleashes a public humiliation; a new love interest suddenly whisks him off his feet. Odd coincidences segue through dream logic, patching together scenes from his past while hinting at his fate. Enigmatic signs lead him to an eccentric hypnotherapist to address his fleeting grip on reality, but it may be too late. This incredibly imaginative film explores ideas of memory, identity and time as powerful yet dangerously fragile constructs, often beyond our simple ken. Ingeniously playing with time and space, Imaginur poses bold questions about existence with stunning cinematic bravado.
Imaginur is a Malaysian film that’s definitely worth watching. It features a poignant and moving storyline with several mind-bending plot twists. It’s a mix of the non-linear narrative in Christopher Nolan’s Memento meets Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind.
Belly used to count down the days until she could return to Cousins Beach, but with Conrad and Jeremiah fighting over her heart and the return of Susannah’s cancer, she’s not sure summer will ever be the same. When an unexpected visitor threatens the future of Susannah’s beloved house, Belly has to rally the gang to come together—and to decide once and for all where her heart lies.
A refugee and a researcher are embroiled in a devious game of deception in this spellbinding island folk horror. A wild and dynamic film that unfolds through unconventional storytelling including an animated segment, featuring local folklore.
Zahara (Asmara Abigail), a stateless refugee, lives on a small remote island in Malaysia, where she makes a living selling turtle eggs. One day, Samad (Bront Palarae), claiming to be a university researcher, visits the island, wanting to employ Zahara to show him around. As the day goes on, Zahara and Samad become entangled in a dangerous dance of duplicity and deception.
It’s a Malaysian folk horror film like you’ve never seen before.
Originally based on Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman’s international best-selling novel,Good Omens 2 explores storylines that go beyond the original source material to illuminate the ineffable friendship between Aziraphale (Michael Sheen), a fussy angel and rare-book dealer, and the fast-living demon Crowley (David Tennant). Having been on Earth since The Beginning, and with the Apocalypse thwarted, the duo are getting back to easy living amongst mortals in London’s Soho.
That is, until the archangel Gabriel (Jon Hamm) turns up unexpectedly at the door of Aziraphale’s bookshop with no memory of who he is or how he got there. While Crowley is leery as to why the archangel has come to the bookshop, Aziraphale is keen to solve the mystery behind Gabriel’s condition. However, hiding the archangel from both Heaven and Hell quickly disrupts their lives in unforeseen ways. To solve this mystery and thwart Heaven and Hell in the process, the duo will need more than a miracle; they’ll need to once again rely on each other.
